You really need colour and a graphical browser. links tries but doesn't
get the colour right, and lynx hasn't a hope.

For the black and white tty users among us, here's a quick perl munger:

#!/usr/bin/perl -xwp
chomp;
s/\s+$//;
s/^\s+//;
s/$/ \n/;
s/aa / /g;
s/ae /::/g;
s/ao /##/g;
s/ea /88/g;
s/ee / /g;
s/eo /@@/g;
s/\.\.\./ /g;
__END__

I've only tried this on the Bart Simpson picture but it's trivial to convert
to other pictures.

Any ol' browser/OS will do except of course lynx and maybe some older
browsers.

And yes you do need a color display to view it best. However, I do
believe it will render in black and white (haven't tried). One
unfortunate thing though, it is not printable, unless you do a screen
shot.

But you do need to search from Google groups, otherwise you can't see
the image.
if you search for; aa ae ao ea ee eo bart the first hit will be the
link below.

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=aa+ae+ao+ea+ee+eo+bart&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=3e0d404c.0207261202.a0246c1%40posting.google.com&rnum=1

If you don't feel that this qualifies as ascii art let me know and I
will no longer post to this group. I just thought that you folks
would get a kick out of it.

The moment you can't use lynx to view what is suposed to be ascii art
then we have no hope left for the world.

hi Tim

ok ... so i checked it out ... quite neat
reminds me of the old bbs-ansi style ascii

i looked at the pic you posted here first adjusted with
Harry Mason's perl script to get an idea of what it was

since it only works on www.google.com and you need to post to usenet
before it can be viewed perhaps it'd be an idea to post the original
to news:rec.arts.ascii complete with viewing instructions
eg:
using a CSS enabled graphical web-browser
do a search at http://www.google.com for
....<whatever the decryption key is>....
then
go to google and check it out making sure everything has worked ok
and post a link here in the format you used above ... complete with
the viewing instructions ... requesting us to go and take a look

the link format is useful because i can be lazy and saves me from
typing errors ... especially if i've had a few beers :)

C'mon Colin,

This is not the real you. Now you sound like a bureaucrat... (memo
copied threefold following the procedure...) Are you not the inventor
slash executor of many a f*cking great Javascript-driven coloured
ASCII-animation?

Actually what Tim does is what I like most about this newsgroup. Folks
finding new ways of expressing creativity and invention thru ASC!!
Eyeeyeeye lurker do not want to be put on a puritan diet of line and
grayscale pics. ASCII-art is an old tart and animation and colour are
the cherries...

Not ASCII art. But it is a new form of character art to me. I like it.
