hmm. you should probably include "what is ascii?" somewhere here. We all know
what it means, but I can name at least... many persons who do not.

I would rather use Lucida Console 9pt but you know me, I don't accept
any other font so forget about it... :)

Where is the latest FAQ?
perhaps someone should start posting it regularly!

We're still using Matthew Thomas' FAQ. David tried posting it here a
while ago and got a ton of criticism for it (it needs some updating).
I have tried emailing Matthew Thomas about it but he hasn't responded. :-/

Veronica Karlsson ( e93...@sm.luth.se http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/ )
Hm, he never meant to be a "maintainer" of the FAQ as far as I remember.
If he will not respond for some time we have to get either a new FAQ
or more simple decide to update his. Of course it is copyrighted blabla
but I think one could copy bits and pieces of it without annoying
Matthew at all. BTW if it comes to that I'd be glad if a native English
speaker volunteers for the "writing" part. It is nice when such a text
is not written in that weird "international English".
I think it's time for an update. And I would favour the idea
of naming someone who maintains it this time. Should be easier
than maintaining a link list on a web site.
Finally: the mini FAQ is a good idea in any case. Colin, you seem to
take over some tasks of the late Colin Douthwaite. :)
:)

CONSTRUCTIVE criticism .. suggestion .. I don't remember anyone being mad at him for
posting it .. people just wanted updates
How DO you?

You press the decode button twice when viewing a bluestruck image.
Because after a ROT13 OE will not parse links - 2 x ROT13 return everything to normal ,
but without the blue lines.
I created a button in my toolbar so I can do that quickly.
It also helps to install OE 5.5 or 6.0 (or newer when they arrive) because the URL parsing
code is slightly better and do not fall short on as many images as previous versions did.
Kind Regards
CeeJay
Of course it is quite simple:
ASCII Character Table The numbers show you the hex-code of
===================== the characters (e.g. the letter 'C' has
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx the code 43).
`. 0123456789ABCDEF
`,----------------.
2x | !"#$%&'()*+,-./|.
3x |0123456789:;<=>?||
4x |@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNO||
5x |PQRSTUVWXYZ[\]^_|| Also you should see this as a box.
6x |`abcdefghijklmno|| If you don't then you have to change
7x |pqrstuvwxyz{|}~ || to a fixed-width font (e.g. COURIER).
`----------------'|
`----------------' Use only these characters and you will
[alf] have more fun in news:alt.ascii-art
I don't exactly remember when I've done it, but you can of course strip
it down to the absolute minimum, like this:
!"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>? | Only the characters that you can find
@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[\]^_ | on the left are called ASCII, you
`abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz{|}~ | shouldn't use any other. [alf]
Feel free to use any version, of course.
So long!
Alfie

That should be news:alt.ascii-art.endless-blabla
(yes, that group does exist!)

Here one could simply link to a Figlet site (the CGI kind, where one
enters a word, chooses a font and pushes a button... Unfortunately the
one at the "surfplaza" site isn't working).
