The top is easier to read on my screen, but I can see the letters in the
bottom one, too.

hi ... thanks for the info
the bottom one is readable if i set firefox to disallow pages to set
their own fonts ... the top one is "smushed" tho'
i have updated the FAQ to reflect this as follows:
[part of Q.5 : which font use?]
Using Google-Groups from a web-browser => F O R G E T I T!
Google-Groups forces users to use a browser-app to view postings
but then serves-up the posts as an 'html-blob' having pre-processed
the messages using a library called 'XML XSLT' <xsl:strip-space>
which changes all white-space content.
A whitespace character can be any of: space character, tab,
carriage return, new line, vertical tab, form feed.
Carriage return characters are replaced with <br> elements.
All mulitple space characters are compressed to one space so all
preformatted text is C O M P L E T E L Y T R A S H E D !
This renders Google-Groups useless for ascii-art so to be safe
boycot Google-Groups.
[part end]
however ... i still post the FAQ thru' them due to its size at 55k
a bit of a heavy-weight
i'm considering revising or removing Q.20 m$.outlook-express settings
since it is now depreciated (dead) product

hi Daniel ... this is what it looks like thru' googlegroups for
new messages
(i use thunderbird on m$.win10 to read usenet but post thru' google)

Curiously tho' ... a couple of months ago i did a search for an article
in the 'deja-news archive' (which is now owned by google) and it
wasn't as messed-up as the above shows
yep ... they'd removed leading spaces but not compressed others
and ... replaced line-terminators with a 'token'
so a quick search'n'replace of the line-terminators and realigning
the leading edge was relatively easy (moslty due to it being like a
regular shape) ... looks like one of those 'endless knot' pics

In alt.ascii-art.animation,

BTW, alt.ascii-art is a better place for this content, since it does not
animate and gets more traffic. I've crossposted there.

If you do want animation, and have a C compiler, look here:

https://github.com/Eli-the-Bearded/vt100-slowcat

I'll gladly take additional animations if you have them.

HTML is not inheritantly ASCII art friendly, and it shows.
That's a good looking figure.

Elijah

VT100 animations are _very_ much not HTML friendly
