I like that repeat (trillion trilling)-- echoes the trickle in the first line.

This year is the 7 year cycle for cicadas isn't it? This will be cool, will have a front seat for this one.

It didn't begin unless you're accusing yourself of starting it. In context of this thread, the trolling appears to be initiated by the troller. NG posted in a new thread because any discussion unrelated to the poem are to be left out of this thread. Arguing about the sound cicada's make is not allowed on this thread, unless you want to argue about the sound of cicadas as portrayed in Hieronymous' poem.

CASE CLOSED: yet again Will Dockery, despite claiming to be here for the poetry, keeps trolling and fighting on other people's poetry commentary threads.

Just let it pass, I reckon... at least Ash won't be repeating it any time soon.

Actually, my question should had been what was you intent for the last line to read.

Your answer confirms what we agreed upon-- it up to the reader.

The others had no problem but me, coming from technical and legal writing, felt the sudden mention of silence was without context and illogical-- but then this is poetry.

Thank you. Have a day.

You have had more that two accounts before and so has zod.
So there, confusions are cleared up.
Glad I could help

My answer was obviously unsatisfactory,
and the sentence is self-evidently illogical.
Telling someone who doesn’t know better
than to shout at the wind NOT to shout at
the wind, is of itself to shout at the wind.
This is the voice of experience, whispering.

And so have you... I know you've had at least three, including one named after my River Mutants characters, ME.

On the list above, though, Zod is only using two accounts, and I'm only using two.

When we think of being outdoors in the country at night, we think of silence. But the silence is only relative to our experiences during the day and in human society. The "silence" of nature is actually composed of many ambient noises (crickets, frogs, cicadas, the sound of the river, etc.). "Deafening" is, of course, hyperbolic. If you sit quietly on your back deck at night and listen to the natural soundscape, you'll find "cacophony" to be an apt description.

Corey: This poem contains none of the flaws I've pointed out in some of your poems in the past: it remains readily coherent throughout, is consistent in tone and imagery (doesn't go off on assorted tangents), and not only avoids the patented "Corey Fizzle," but uses the final line to bring all of the poem's elements into razor-sharp clarity.

I would delete "itself" from line one -- it's unnecessary, and the first two lines read more forcefully without it.

That's what we were assuming-- "silence" even though it's a cacophony of the animal noises described in the poem, is silence to humans with their point of view. But it has to be interfered from the poem.

I have a different prespective form most, being among wildlife at night away from civilization often, so silence means something different. Ambient noises were never ignored background noises to me.

I liked this one from Hieronymous and why I showed it around.
Now that we have Pendragon's commentary, I call in a favor to NG, let's save this thread with some more professional commentary.

Michael: THANK YOU.

You got it. Yours is an accurate and detailed assessment of the poem’s superficial reading.
You’ve successfully scratched the surface, hopefully to reveal its more metaphorical layers.
The poem is not meant to be read more forcefully than the sound of water trickling itself.

Consider that the sounds described in the poem as not intended for human perception.
The river water trickles itself, as the crickets, frogs, and cicadas serenade one another.

Let's rephrase Corey's question: What's the point of your... observation?

Let me rephrase. If a tree falls in the forest, or some other similarly extraordinary event occurs
to which you are the only witness, what psychological impact does it have on you as the observer?

I would make this an example commentary thread but you don't want to be part of my efforts, but still want to say with Pendragon review and your response, we finally got something here.
BTW: I duplicated your blog layout with the collection app : P
