Sleeping On The Ceiling

Elizabeth Bishop

It is so peaceful on the ceiling!
It is the Place de la Concorde.
The little crystal chandelier
is off, the fountain in the dark.
Not a soul is in the park.

Below, where the wallpaper is peeling,
the Jardin des Plantes has locked its gates.
Those photographs are animals.
The mighty flowers and foliage rustle;
under the leaves the insects tunnel.

We must go under the wallpaper
to meet the insect-gladiator,
to battle with a net and trident,
and leave the fountain and the square.
But oh, that we could sleep up there…

Ok.. can you tell me the good and bad parts
of this poem.

I can, can you?

My guess is that Dale doesn't have a clue as to what
makes this a better poem than all of his.

Just a guess...

And you'd be very wrong - again: I happen to know Elizabeth Bishop is a
better writer than everyone on this (and most other) newsgroups, and
probably most other places on Earth. You're a bigger fucking fool than I
thought if you've gotten the idea that I think I'm a "great" poet, as is
Elizabeth. I know I'm not, and I've said so, repeatedly. It is the
slanderous lies and - frankly - jealous bile of such totally worthless
vermin as Tom that seems to believe I think such things of myself. I
consider myself a fairly good minor poet. But - at any rate - comparing
Elizabeth to myself is like comparing a grand piano made of gold to a
fairly entertaining radio station. And I've never thuoght otherwise.

OK...
So why is her poetry better?
If you can say, then why can't you /do it/.

"Dale Houstman", remarked:

Really, this is poetic crap that has no real /guts/.

(finally read and thought about it)

Try again... The concept that you or even I
can't produce better than this is garbage.

You are a moron.
