Hey Rik, good to see you back... as you know, I'm not much of a
"poetry critic" but I know this is some good stuff, so I'm saying so.
I'm "hearing" Ray Davies, and later, Andy Partridge here, two of the
greats of Brit poetry. Give it a backbeat and wail, man, yell it!
"Boody brilliant!"
Victoria
Long ago life was clean
Sex was bad and obscene
And the rich were so mean
Stately homes for the Lords
Croquet lawns, village greens
Victoria was my queen
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria, 'toria
I was born, lucky me
In a land that I love
Though I am poor, I am free
When I grow I shall fight
For this land I shall die
Let her sun never set
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria, 'toria
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria, toria
Land of hope and gloria
Land of my Victoria
Land of hope and gloria
Land of my Victoria
Victoria, 'toria
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria, 'toria
Canada to India
Australia to Cornwall
Singapore to Hong Kong
From the West to the East
From the rich to the poor
Victoria loved them all
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria, 'toria
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria

Has it worked for you any yet?
The Ride (Combat Zone) by Will Dockery (words) & Dennis Beck (music):

The Ride (Combat Zone)
Driving through the combat zone
a rasta steps out,
sort of calling my name ---
a reasonable approximation.
Variation of my street name I guess.
Said he could take me to see Raine,
apparently the rastas have her locked up in a house
somewhere in the combat zone.
Girl of these woods and chemicals,
we labor for the black pigs of poetry,
for the bone gods of the sea,
for the secret rose you keep for me,
under the skirts of printed sunflowers.
He wanted money for his information,
at which point I was to park and walk.
It seemed very sinister, the thought of Raine held prisoner
But he smoothed it over fairly often.
said I could come back later,
when the bad vibes wore down.
There is a hollering and someone has a
dog that barks,
your eyes have that recently crying look,
and your hair seems as soft
and your smell as sweet, as before,
as that last time you came to my door,
in a skirt of printed sunflowers
Rasta gets crazy on me in the car,
wanting five dollars, two bucks, anything.
I give him nothing, just smoke and drink.
He's got an ice pick in his hand,
makes it sound like he's got a gun.
I'd already heard Raine was in jail
but I didn't expect a rasta jail.
But it has been seen that you look
straight through,
I fear that you are already gone,
that night you tried to die in my arms,
is something that I will not forget
or make sense of,
you and your skirt of printed sunflowers.
The image crossed my mind how it might feel
if he jabbed that icepick into me
a couple of times or more.
Just curious to see if he'd do it or not,
could I stop him, I could tell I didn't know.
Methinks that you no longer see nothing,
and God knows what kind
of love is this,
you told me that you never stopped loving me,
but you could never return to me,
in your skirt of sunflowers
in your skirt of sunflowers
I just stare and talk about money.
I bummed a cigarette from him.
I told him I'd be in touch about Raine.
He said, "Man, you crazy.", and walked off.
I went back home to think.
Girl of these woods and chemicals,
we labor for the black pigs of poetry,
for the bone gods of the sea,
for the secret rose you keep for me,
under the skirt of printed sunflowers.

Please don't post your poems to my thread, Will - surely they deserve
their own threads? And please don't change the thread title - it buggers
up any chance on locating it when I'm forced by circumstance to resort
to that awful Google groups website thingy.
And why crosspost so many new groups? If I'd wanted to post my poem to
aapc, don't you think I would have done so myself?
Just saying, innit.

Hello, Rik, great stuff, but I didn't write "Victoria", Ray Davies
did.

Since the thread had been stripped of all content anyhow, I decided to
add some rather than continue with wasted bandwidth and no content
other than just another endless flamewar with PJR.
Anyway, the title is back, so all is well?
how truly sad you are, crackery.
most sincerely,

More American "telly"? Any good Brit shows coming out these days you enjoy
that you can tip us off on?
A favorite of mine that never got much notice over here was Sandbaggers... I
was just lucky on that one that a friend gave me a home made tape of it rom

Please. The narcissism was present from Our Will's first crosspost
here from alt.wicca.whatever. Nevertheless, accepting that Our Will is
a narcissist, and nothing will ever change this state of things, is
the first step on being able to cope with the DockeryFlood that
regularly engulfs our little poetic cesspit.
Unlike the late, much lamented J R Sherman, I don't assume that
everyone who posts to rap is Stupid until proven otherwise. Rather, I
try to think of posters - such as Our Will - as a person first, and a
narcisstic sociopathic shithead second. A futile approach, maybe, but
a little optimism every now and again never hurts noone, innit.

What makes you think you're the king of the world, Willy?
I didn't say I was, Rik did.

Try not to blame Rik for your narcissism.
By the way, you and I have both seen photos of Rik. He's quite
handsome, so why are you sexually attracted to me instead of him?
Why do you dream about me instead of Rik? Seriously, WHY?
I don't "blame" Rik for anything, much less a condition that obviously
doesn't even exist.

So, no argument or confusion on your part, there... but:
>so why are you sexually attracted to me instead of him?
Where did you get that idea? Just curious.
> Why do you dream about me instead of Rik? Seriously, WHY?
Furst, point out to me where you somehow see any sexual context in the
dream you appeared in? Notice the dream about Obama and the local
politician is a different one from the one about you.
Here's what I wrote:
"Oh, yeah... the "bluue-dy brilliant" line, spoken in the best Sean
Connery, is already a part of Usenet song and story.
I had a dream once where PJR came to Shadowville, or I went to
Northumberland and met him, I forget which but there's a conversation
with me & Stuart Leichter about it somewhere in the archives, four or
five years back. The most recent famous person I met in a dream was
Obama... a couple of nights ago he was here with a local lady
politician (in the dream), and I told a joke that he didn't laugh
about, something about my 'economic stimulus package'.
Glad to attempt to clear up your obvious confusion, though, PJR, and
hope this helps.

Heh... actually, as far as I remember, Rik's never positioned himself
very closely to Barbie's stench.

Interested in seeing how you imagine perversion from that.

(For those who have joined this conversation late, let me summarise:
Will Dreckery is afraid that some readers might think that he wants to
have sex with me. Meanwhile, I'm laughing at his contortions.)
Btw, Dreckery, you seem to have snipped the bit where I solemnly
promised to agree to have sex with you if you ever posted a poem you
wrote. I knew it was a safe promise to make, since you never post
anything but unspeakable shit and are incapable of writing a poem, but
I still feel that I was very generous in making such an offer to one
of my biggest fans.
You still haven't answered how having a dream about meeting someone
makes the person a "pervert", but do tell.

That's an interesting and revealing statement.
Does your persistent fascination with Chuck, his photograph, blog and
life mean that he turns you on and you want to have sex with him?
Just curious, since that's what you seem to believe.

You're saying a narrcissist wouldn't have a desire to have sex with
men with long red hair?
