It's a mistake. That's all.

"Edgar Allan Poland" is funny because it's too ridiculous to be believed. "London," otoh, could easily be a town or city in Ireland (Londonderry is one of Ireland's biggest cities).

You can say that NancyGene's error was as "bad" an error as yours, and I won't argue with that. But you cannot claim that there is anything inherently funny about it.

If you still wish to argue the point, you'll need to explain what makes NancyGene's error inherently funny.

So far the best you can come up with is that NancyGene is semi-omniscient, so any mistake by her would be funny. And, yes, a poorly educated man might claim that a mistake made by an educated intellectual is funny because of *who* made it -- but that is just a spiteful reaction. Even so, the supposed "humor" would be derived from the reputation of the person making the error, *not* from any inherently funny qualities of the error itself.

"Edgar Allan Poland" would be funny regardless of who said it. Mistakenly saying "Ireland" instead of "England" is just not funny at all.
