I happen to have some artwork, reproductions, and letters by Helen
Blumenschein, a New Mexico artist. She was my mother's "best friend."
There is a portrait of her by my grandfather, the American
Impressionist painter F. C. Frieseke, which he painted when Helen was
visiting my mother in Normandy, France, in the 1930's.

BTW, I'm not looking to collect more art; I don't have room even to
store what I've got!

Rather insulting to we New Mexicans who have
been here all along, doncha think? Your post implies
we're backward and I can assure you we're not.
So what is it you wish from us New Mexicans? J'Bird.

In case you haven't seen it before, here is a good site featuring about 100
New Mexico artists:
http://www.arteffects.com/Gallery/index.html

There are numerous web sites that have New Mexico
artists and their work represented. Too numerous to
list here. J'Bird.

There's no way it's "too numerous to list here." News is big. Really big.

If you have such a numerous number of good sites for nm artists, please
post them. I'm not looking for the output of a search engine... I'm
talking things you've apparently seen.

Just go to the plaza in Santa Fe and spiral outward on foot. If your
legs still function by the time you run out of shops, you've missed
some. :^)

No.

It appears what you have read into my words implies what you think and does
not apply to my reality at all.

My post is to rattle the bushes to find the NM Artists who rarely post in the art
groups. I saw the first one recently and thought I would rattle for more. The first
one and I are having a nice discussion although he is only new to NM.

I am looking for the Professional Artists in NM or very very very serious Sunday
Painters. Usually, on the net, they say they are artists and they are typically
sunday painters....it is ok....but there is a major huge astronomical difference
between the two...even though much is in common.

I posted a year ago in NMG and not one artist got back. Figured they are still
working on getting in the loop. There is no nm.art yet which suprised me.

> So what is it you wish from us New Mexicans? J'Bird.

Want to find out about cool minds in arte', connect up swap stories, business
connections...who knows studios, connect with collectors of modern art...the
usual etc... Simple.

Nice of you to enquire though.

So nm.art is t' out there ?

I am looking for them....not the sites or the art....typically in the usenet you find
more socail creatures....

I've seen LOTS but I don't make a record of it.
So you'll just have to use YOUR search engine, I'm afraid. J'Bird.

New Mexico is a unigue place, as you may know. The art here
is very diverse in some respects but SWstern Regionalism is
still the driving force behind what artists create in most of the
state. It has a very limited audience as you might guess but
in order to survive here it is an essential element. There are
a few lucky souls who have wider reputations but most have
moved here from other locales where they established that
reputation and they don't need to market locally. I welcome
other NM artists to debate their art motivations myself.

Here in Lincoln County, where Billy the Kid is still BIG BUSINESS,
we are trying to put together the first Artist Directory for wide
distribution. And there are very few artists participating,
unfortunately. The fifty dollar price tag for putting a page in the
journal is probably the deciding factor for many of them.
New Mexico is one of the poorest states in the USA on a
per capita basis. J'Bird.

PS Santa Fe's art scene USED to epitomize NM art.
No longer as you may know, as Santa Fe has been
taken over by the paparazzi. And Taos is too.

Mattison,

I found out this weekend about a Santa Fe Contemporary Art organization.
Do you know of them? If not, would you like me to get more information
to send you?

Greg
