Description:

A framed painting, 5 feet by 30 inches. Background of painting is black
velvet. Bowl of fruit, some of which is peach-colored. Bunch of grapes,
with a white dot on each grape. Wine bottle in the middle of the fruits.
The surface which the objects are resting on is the same light peach
colored. The whole still-life is in the center of the painting, leaving
about 16 inches on each side of the objects.

The painting smells like a combination of an attic and a flea market,
with an underwhiff of fries. If you look closely, there is a sneaker
footprint to the upper left of the bottle. The frame is 2 inches wide,
and chipped.

There is a peach colored signature in the lower right hand corner.

I bought it on a whim at a flea market. It might play a supporting role
in a video I am making. (It will star as the Art, and I will be the
Artist). I'm still rolling the idea around in my head. In the meantime,
I've had some great discussions with people about what they think about
it and art in general. One person remarked that whether or not it is art
depends on the context. Hanging in someone's rec. room. In my video.
At a flea market. Integrated into someone's installation work. Hanging
on the side of the road waiting to be bought.

just thinkin' and musin'

Sounds like your right but is Franz Klein any better?

A huge canvas with some black schmiers here and there. No longer smells; has
been deodorized by combination of artzy-fartsy gallery and museum PR hype. It
requires descriptions which are infinitly longer and more wordy then yours.

Sm> There is a peach colored signature in the lower right hand corner.

There is a sloppy black signature in the lower right hand corner.
This is the only thing which makes it so much more costly then the work you
describe.

I'm sure there are some black velvet paintings done with some degree of
skill, and others with not much skill at all. (Same as oil on linen).
Oil on linen and black velvet both end up at flea markets, if there is
not much skill involved in the painting. Black velvet seems more at home
in a flea market, less forlorn.
