The New Art Movement

What is massurrealism? As best as words can describe:

"Massurrealism" is a new word created to define a form of art that is
rooted in the combination of pop-art and surrealism, and influenced by the=

mass media. Massurrealism also blends unrelated ideas and mental images
that attempt to describe popular insights of modern imagery.

Pop-art is images of popular things. Pop-art is images of ordinary objects,=

mass produced common, everyday items that most people like and recognize,
like Andy Warhol's paintings of Campbell's soup cans. Pop-art is also
images of record labesl, or logos, or packaging, advertising art, such as
fashion pictures of people, or Roy Lichtenstein's paintings of comic book
panels (You know, stuff you see around you, anything currently in vogue
RIGHT NOW). Pop-art is also bold colors and simple patterns, silk screen
images, like silk screen paintings done by Robert Rauschenberg.
Mass-culture and mass communication are things like television, pop music,
and radio. Mass culture, mass media and mass communication is also computer=

art, and the Internet, the computer linked information super highway. Mass
culture can also be industrial art.

Surrealism is art that is much like your dreams. Surrealism is fantasy,
and/or off-beat pictures. Some surrealist art is mysterious, or scary, like=

fantasy pictures from children's books, or the feeling like you are on your=

own episode of the Twilight Zone. Some surrealist art also uses symbolism,
or warps objects, like Salvadore Dali's paintings of a strange fantasy
world. Paintings by Ren=E9 Magritte also had an off-beat quality of oddness=

in them .

Massurrealism combines pop-art/mass media/mass culture styles with the
style of surrealism. Massurrealism mixes pop-art/mass media/mass culture
like advertising art, ordinary mass produced objects, silk screen pictures,=

television images, industrial art, bold colors, computer art and the
Internet, simple patterns with fantasy, or mystery, or in an off-beat way.*=

Origination: The term "Massurrealism" was coined by artist James Seehafer
to better describe his art and to better describe what is happening in the
contemporary art scene. Additionally, this new catch-phrase and its
concept has been receiving favorable responses in the art community in
N.Y.C. as well as internationally.

The first official massurrealist exhibition was in South Norwalk,
Connecticut, U.S.A. (1995) which featured paintings by Seehafer, as well as=

works by Michael Morris, Mara Lynn Pritchard, Shaun Pritchard, and Frank
Posluszny. The exhibit was followed by a second exhibit in Germany by
German art students titled "Massensurrealismus".

We are seeking artists in all media whose work is massurrealist. Further
information can be obtained by e-mailing us or by contacting:
