I have been painting portraits on my own for about 4 years now and would

Have you tried some online art groups. It's not as good as working with
someone live and in person, but it's better than nothing. There are a couple
of members on my art board that oil paint and do colored pencil portraits.
Both are very good and very helpful. You can view some of their work there
as well. Stop by some time.
