Kay McKay of Gorham was raised in the military, so at 17 it was
natural for her to enlist in the Navy.
McKay retired after 20 years of service. Now 45, she is an artist and
a student assistant in the genetics lab at the University of Southern
Maine.
Combining her scientific background with her artistic side, McKay
creates paintings and photographs from organic and inorganic subjects
she finds under her microscope.
Sometimes while working with a microscope, she said, she'll see an
image that reminds her how she felt at various times during her
military career. McKay has an exhibit at Casco Bay Frames in Portland
