Dee Bandini's paintings are well-known and highly regarded. The painting up
for auction is a recent first prize winner at a showing at the Rowayton Art
Center.
Artist members were challenged to create a square painting using square
motifs as the defining visual structure. Dee Bandini's "Apple In The
Square" was the best in show, amidst a field consisting of other
professional fine artists and professional commercial artists, the
traditional residents of the area. Bandini's triumph was achieved by
imagining the delectable, sensuous roundness of one red apple, placed on a
white surface and lit from the right, casting a shadow, appearing in front
of a checkerboard background, squared against a deep blue square, then
against a sky blue square, then against an ancient multiple square
decorative motif The colors are luscious, applied richly. The use of
acrylic paint on canvas gives the painting a boldly colorful glow. The
painting is being auctioned with frame included. The canvas itself measures
16 by 16 inches square. With frame, the painting measures 16 3/4 by 16 3/4
inches. The frame is gold painted wood.
