Interesting opinion on body-painting

Hi,
I've just received a couple of interesting opinions on body-painting
(one via email and one guestbook entry) - presumably from the same
person. I thought others might appreciate the insight they provide.

Hi there,
I was shocked to discover that this body painting was actually done in
victoria but then again i always did thing victorians were crazy. How
can you call what you do a profession? If you asked me to do a body
painting and take my clothes off I would slap you so hard and insult you
for the rest of your life. What you do isnt a profession and it makes
me ill to think of it. I was looking up face painting because I was
going to do face painting for this halloween for a few of the younger
children around the block that I know would love the idea then I
discovered your site and let me tell you I was more than unimpressed
with what you showed. I love art and you a making a mockery out of what
I love most.

Sorry to say but i would be horrified if my child deiceded to do body
painting and actually post it on the web. I think there is a reason why
there are clothes so you dont have to paint them thats what canvas is
for. If you dont want to paint a flat surface then make a model of
something and paint that. Use your creativity for some other purposes,
and thats why we have what is known as tatoo artists if people wanted
there body marked then they should have tatoos. Face painting for
children I can understand but body painting I cant and yes it actually
does look fake you can tell they arent wearing clothes that is
disgusting!!!

Hello Roger..
That is not an opinion, that is just someone that felt like finding
something to insult,
probably because they had a bad day or something..

And yes, they can say that due to freedom of speech, its sad I know, but
true...

You do realise it is the ones who have nasty, dirty minds who see the bad
side of bodypainting when they look at it. And cause a big fuss about it.
The people with open minds look at it and whether they like it or don't like
it, or even if it isn't their thing they can see the skill involved and
don't feel the need to slag it and the artist off. I would rest assured that
this guy has a big problem!

Any way don't let him put you off continuing your fantastic work Roger

Well, I guess there will always be people in the dark ages. Art is art no

Or freedom of bad grammar!

Looks like the usual work of trolls, fishing for an argument to me. Though
not impossible that it truly is someone offended. I received something
similar when I first put my pages up in 95. Interesting thing is-- these
people have to search out your page in order to be offended. That say a LOT
about them.

I think you've gotten to the root of this thread and nailed it
right dead center.

There is a long tradition of art with an erotic hint to it.
What many consider to be the oldest surviving photograph in
the U.S. is a female nude.

There is also a long tradition (far too common where I live)
that equates ANY pleasure not provided by the church as the
work of the devil. Sad!

Art is ment to create emotions. Some of pleasure and some of excitment,
disgust and you name it. When it does not create an emotion then it can be
argued if it is art or not. But that is one of the eternal questions that
will never be answered.

And for freedom of speech; a quote I like to bring up is:
"If you respect my opinion and my right not to agree with you, I will fight
to protect your right to be wrong."

Actually I see this a lot. Usally coming from 'older' people... Much
more in the Britsh founded countries than Europe. Never seen one
person complain who was from Europe yet. 'Sexual' based art is more
accepted as norm there...

Wow, you can really debate if body painting is sexual... in some ways
it is... in other ways it can be very bland and non-offensive.

Or, as in this case, made an excuse for 'accidentally' finding it.

I haven't seen any feedback like this yet. I wonder if I'm doing something

As a professional Tattoo Artist,I'd just like to say that I am offended by
my profession being mentioned in such a hideous rant.And there are TWO T's
in Tattoo,dammit.If you're goimg to involve us,at leats lerun to spel it.
Don't be offended by these small-minded people,they are more to be pitied
than scorned.I've been practising my Art for 18 years,and still run into
these bigotted clowns.It was probably people like this warped and stunted
creature who thought the Inquisition and reformation were good ideas.
Keep slinging the paint and creating emotion,be it good or bad,at least it's
a reaction to your work.
