I was having a look at setting up Thunderbird on my PC.

I looked at some test emails and they seemed fine so I signed up to a news
group.

I found I couldn't delete any messages. CTRL-X does nothing, the delete
key does nothing and right clicking brings up a menu with delete greyed
out. I even tried dragging a message to the Trash folder but all it does
is make a copy instead of movimg it.

Have I got something wrong?

Deleting emails works fine by any method, how do you delete a news message.

Any other suggestions for an email/news reader that works?

I am aware of Messenger-Pro for windows but any advice involving the
spending of money will have wait till after Christmas.

A good place to ask these questions is the TB support mail list. See:

Email sent to my from-address will be deleted. Instead, please reply
to newsre...@wingsandbeaks.org.uk replacing "aaa" by "284".

In article <mpro.mdkjd7005...@pittdj.co.uk>,
Thanks for that.

I am quite bewildered that one should have to go past the "dire warnings"
to set something that should so obviously be there by default.
