Anyone any experience with cancelling Sky?

Daughter got a Sky deal in December when she moved with partner and got a
Sky deal with movies etcetera primarily for him.

Didn't work out and she really can't afford the package - for which,
incidentally, she's signed nothing.

I am thinking just disconnect it and cancel the payment mandate and invite
them to collect their kit. If they insisted on a minimum period payment
and went to court, they'd only get dribs and drabs, as her income as a lone
parent on sickness benefit is so little.

So, anyone any experience with cancelling Sky to share?

Its a minimum 12 month contract for Sky TV, you could cancel the
Movies part and reduce it to the basic package.

The fact they have not signed a piece of paper is not relevant, the
contract has been entered into and agreed by use of the service, per
the T's and C's of service.

If cancelled you would have to pay the balance of the unused months
plus the balance of the subsidised Box (its your box in effect).

If you just canale the mandate they will apply for a debt recovery
(which they would be legally entitled to) to recovery the debt plus
recovery costs and court costs in assets.

You would be better talking to them and trying nicely to get them to
finish the contract early (not happy with the service etc).

No, but I did investigate there "deals" some time ago.

I think you will find that to get a sky deal you need to agree to a
minimum of 12 months eg see the latest deals at:

A verbal or "internet" agreement doesn't need a signature to be legal.

The fact that she has a payment mandate set up shows that she agreed to
the deal.

I'm sorry that I cannot give any better news but unless you can plead with
Sky and get them to relent she will be liable for the full 12 months.

I would advise not to just cancel the mandate as this is breaking the
contract and could land her with further worry and debt eg if Sky transfer
the debt to a debt collector. Contact Sky first.

This is only my take on Sky deals from investigations I made some time
ago. As she is unable to pay I would strongly urge her to consult Citizens
advic bureau:

If you are a member of Which you may be able to get help from them.

Thank you Chris and Alan for your advice, which I have passed on.
