Though I've spent some time trawling he net, I can't seem to find any
useful answer to the problem I'm having, so I thought maybe ask here where
there are some intelligent folks hanging.

Just had to replace the MOBO on my main PC, no problem all done and dusted.

As part of the process, I bought and did a new clean install of Win 7 Pro
(64 bit).

Again all done and dusted... Well updated and working perfectly okay.

I now want to install MS Security Essentials (I have it installed on my
other PCs), but I'm encountering a problem I can't resolve.

I've downloaded (64 bit) version form the official MS web site, but
thereafter it will not process and stops with a "File corrupt" message.

(Yes I'm doing it as Administrator)

I've also downloaded from a 3rd party site, but that also won't process,
"File corrupt"

I though maybe it was just this new repaired machine giving trouble, so I
went to one of my other PCs and again downloaded Security Essentials, but
again it would not process, "File corrupt".

Back to the original MOBO replaced machine...

The Win install was a clean format install, I've not installed any other
AV or Malware type apps.

Does anyone have any useful thoughts to throw in my direction, please.

Thanks
Dave

If you have any other anti-virus, turn it off. But I assume you haven't
any from your tale.

Tried the prerelease version?

A quick google using :-

microsoft security essentials file corrupt

with the "Past 24 hours" selected would indicate you are not alone with
this.

Thanks for that David, it post-dates my search by a few hours, but useful
to know.

The official MS download is still corrupt as I write this 7:20 Saturday
evening, but as I do download other stuff from FileHippo, I decided to
do what others have done in the waiting for MS time, and download/install
the version from there which works.
Updated with the latest defs and Robert is my brother (Literally).

Thanks for the thought Tim, and no other AV installed as I'd only, a short
while before, finished installing the MOBO and the New Win 7.
