Hi,

I'm looking for a new bow and I like the look of the Browning... As I
understand it, it has been discontinued and now Petron produce it. Does
anyone know if this is still exactly the same bow (apart from logos)?

How do the Browning carbon limbs comapre to Hoyt or Border and how much
weight / tiller adjustment is there?

Many thanks
Rob

I'd guess that the name change may have something to do with Browning
in the states being bought out (by PSE?). The new owners may not want
the name used for a competing recurve bow...
I don't know what the current crop of Browning limbs are like. They
used to be made by Marksman before they went out of business (IIRC),
which would have meant they were comparable in quality to Border
limbs.
If the limbs are now being made by the new Marksman company that
started up they may be of a similar quality, but I've not heard
whether this is the case or not. So only speculation. Sorry.

Dear Rob,

you are right. The Browning franchise for recurves was taken up by
Chiltern Archery, but recently, for their own design recurves - the S3
etc - they have given up the Browning name in favour of the
long-established name of Chiltern's own products: Petron. So yes, it is
just a name change.

This is an excellent bow and the limbs outstanding. Look at Chiltern's
web site as there some bargains to be had. Weight adjustment is about 5
lbs, eg. 35-39 lbs.

Comparisons are always difficult, especially when you are comparing
limbs against those of Hoyt or Border, and you can always find someone
who will tell you dark tales about the shortcomings of the FX, the ML2,
or, doubtless, the S3. But this is a serious bow and, like most bows and
limbs of this quality is somewhat ahead of our capacity as archers. Try
out the bow.

Best wishes,

Graham (still shooting the old Browning Olympian riser with Marksman
carbon limbs = todays S3 limbs)

Many thanks :c)

My problem is deciding whether or not I'm worth the bow... see above post

Just a note - last I heard, Marksman were no longer making the
Browning/Petron limbs.
