One thing you must think of is the climbing stand your best selection?
I do not know what you will spend your first season hunting but you
should take all types of tree stands in to perspective.
There are so many combinations to work with along with the climber.
A standard treestand with climbing sticks
A standard treestand with screw in steps\
A standard treestand with climbing blocks

One of the better climbers is the one that just left my mind. Some one
give me some help here. Okay the Loggie Boyou or how ever it is spelled.
This is an excellent climber.
You want one that is portable and quiet. They can make alot of noise if
you are not carefull.
This is a very good question and I'm sure this group can help you out!!

Oh boy, another request for opinions in one of the world's most
opinionated sports. Here's my 2 cents:

I own a Summit Saber. I like the fact that the platform is made with
supports that push back into the tree and holds tighter with your weight
pushed against the front of the stand. I also like its sturdiness.
(spelling?), and the little features like the non-skid strips and the
cargo bag and pad on the climber. Shows you the manufacturers THOUGHT IT
OUT before they made it. The downside: its heavy, and the factory issue
shoulder straps don't make matters easier--relace 'em with some padding.

I DO NOT like stands with flexible metal bands--had an old Intruder cut
out from under me during the climb down about 3 yrs ago. (NOT FUN.) The
band bent, and GOOD LUCK getting a replacement.

As for non-climbers, I've been using a small portable and 16 ft. of tree
ladder, all bundled together and lashed to a pack frame with padded
shoulder straps and hip belt. The 20# load is about the same as a
climber, and its about as quick and quiet to get up. You also have the
advantage of using a stable ladder to get in/out.

Don't try and go "low budget minded" when buying a climber. My experience
has been the cheaper they are the noisier they are, there are exceptions.
Go to the Hunting/Sportsmans expos/product shows and look over different
models if there are events like that near you.

If you buy a climber get some HD bungi cords or ratchet tie-downs to help
secure to tree. Makes for a safer and more stable shooting platform.

My first climber was a cheapo from Gander Mountain. It was effective, climbed
trees really well, but I was always clankin sumpthin against it and makin
more noise than I wanted to. Caliper release was also clankin into sumpthin
too often. I found I had to really get imaginative in noise reduction QUICK.

I personally prefer a hang on stand and tree steps. The stands are easy
to cary in and put in a different tree every time you hunt. I like the
LOC-ON LIMIT at 7.5 lbs with shoulder starps sure is easy to carry
around. Another stand that I think looks interesting is the LONE WOLF
hang on stand. It is fully casted aluminum, no welds. Looks like it would
be very quiet.

On private ground I use Loc-On Super Spirits. I leave these up from
September 1st till the end of deer season. On Public ground I use
an Aero-lite. It is hung with a "ball & chain". The ball & chain
stays in place on the tree, but the stand comes down with me.
I would NEVER leave a stand up on public ground. I also use
Sky hook steps when hunting public ground. The only thing in the
tree is the lag bolts and the ball and chain. The Aero-lite is light
weight and easy to hang.

Woody, I really like the look of those Aero products and the fact that the stand is easily
removed Do you have the stand with the iron mesh platform or the welded rail platform. I
thought the iron mesh platform might be a little noisy in the woods but am not sure. I'd
appreciate your input because I'm thinking of purchasing one of these stands for the fall.

Also, do you have a phone no for Aero?

Please reply by email because I'm about to go off the net for a week.

TIA.

TIA,

The floor is an expanded aluminum grate. You can do as I did, put a
light weight piece of kitchen carpet on the platform. I really do like
the Aero because the light weight and ease of putting up.You use
your treesteps to get to the heighth you want, hook the "balls and chain"
on, pull the stand up and hook it on the "balls and chain". Simple,Eh?
The Aero and Skyhook steps are the only way to go on public hunting
grounds. All that is in the tree is the locked on "balls & chain" & 9
lagbolts. No more stolen stands.
