[I guess Tim Baker is famous enough to be quoted here without the need to
ask his permission. The following is said by him in the paleoplanet forum]

PaleoPlaned is damaging natural materials archery by allowing false
information and dogma to seep back into the brew of knowledge. The lack
of a civility rule and accuracy rule allows fact and logic refutations to
be drowned out. Hours of futile response would be needed to counter the
volumes of misleading or incorrect postings, and ad hominem and negative
posts falling on all non-vanilla contributions. This is the reason why
several clear and original thinkers, researchers, and innovators,
presently can't contribute... at quite some cost to the advancement of
natural archery knowledge.

Saying that PaleoPlanet is what its members make of it is not quite true:
without the no-religion, no-politics rules some of its members would have
made it a rant fest. Now it's a relatively civil place when postings are
vanilla flavored. But when false claims are challenged or controversial
ideas are argued out it's rant-fest time again, because certain ideas are
as religion to some.

Because multitudes of invalid ideas and views are religiously held and
defended with religious passion it only makes sense to have a no-religion
type civility and accuracy rule, for the same reason as for the existing
no-religion rule. Such would have solved the mentioned problems without
diminishing any good facets of the site.

If we think we already know something when we actually don't, we will be
irritated when questioned about our certainty repeatedly. Most negligent
people never even dream of themselves being negligent and feel absolutely
no need to find out what it means for them to be legally negligent. Yes,
American legal system is breaking down thanks to such negligent people
and those who profit from their negligence. If it takes 10 years and
possibly millions to decide a negligent case, it would take eternity for
most people to comprehend negligence and apply the standard themselves.
Bowery had its share of false or wrong dogmas. Thanks to certain people
we have much less now. But we might be making new ones here. If we ever
stop questioning what we think we already know, we could be letting this
forum to "melt down" to become a pool of false dogmas. But just accusing
other people will not help us. We need to vigorously question what we
think we already know. Yes, repeatedly.

Smart and honorable Athenians executed Socrates simply because he
recently questioned their blind faith. But that's the human condition. I
went to a law school where most teachers are not even interested in
justice and what matters is not who is right but how to win. Many
Christian newsgroups are run by atheist trolls acting like admins.
Here certain well-meaning admins are making it impossible to question
dogmas, in the guise of civility. They might be just trying to hide their
ignorance. They might wanna pretend to know everything already. I even
suspect that Tim Baker left not because of Red Horse but because of those
admins who made it impossible for him to think aloud. They did so
possibly out of their loyalty to the forum. But more likely they just
wanted to keep their illusion of certainty. Or it's just a case of "To a
shit dog, everything looks like shit." Enough said.

Or not. Those ignorant admins at Paleoplanet forums do not even
realize that they are trolling their own forum way too often. How do
we know they are trolling? First, quite often they are not even
interested in the topic being discussed. Still they are territorial
enough to jump in at a slight hint of a new idea. Especially if the
idea challenges their ignorance. Then they don't ever hesitate to make
personal attacks in the name of civility. Unfortunately they have no
idea what it means to be civil and fair. It's rather sad to see their
depravity so relentlessly exposed by themselves. Examples galore.
Though it might be rather painful, they still deserve to be taught how
not to troll their own forums. To be continued.
