Hi,

I have two upside down cats in one of my tanks, I know they are nocturnel,
and becuase of this I rarely seem them.

The tank they are in has no lighting, apart from the natural light the room
recieves. Is there anyway of making the fish come out during day light
hours?
would a certain type of lighting, which imitates dusk?
Or am I hoping for a miracle?

My girlfriend hasn;t seen the fish since I bought them a few months back,
and she reckons they are dead lol. but they aren't I have seen them many
times (late at night, and when I have done a water change).
To be fair to them when they swim upright, they are ugly like things lol,
but I still like them all the same :)

Thanks for any help

I have one that I haven't seen in months. Every so often I check under the
castle he hides in and sure enough he's still alive. Strange creatures.

what do you feed your USD cats?

I have been putting cayfish pellets in the tank, and the fish are still
alive, but I'm not sure if they are eating them or what

i also have two upside down catfish, what i did to get them out more
was pick up a bunch of rocks from homedepot and laid them on top of
eachother, kinda making tunnels for them to stick to that i could see
in. this helped a lot, but space may be an issue for you.. you can
break the rocks up and build too.

also give them a good amount of dark space to be completly hidden,
build around it with semi hidden areas so they slowly get used to
leaving their spot, they seem to like being able to travel and still
be hidden some.

your right about them being nocturnal sounds like you have a good dark
setup for them, sometimes i think they would enjoy a dark full rocked
tank instead of the half planted tank i have them in now.. oh and they
do school, one day i might try adding to the group, that might help
also.

ps. ugly? there kind of cute lookin no? ;p

one of mine swims upside down and eats flakes from the top with the
other fish, and they both like algae discs too. i dont think there
picky but try to mix it up anyway its suppose to be good for them.

also i was reading about how they like plants and big leaves at the
top of the tank and how they hang out a lot at the top if happy. im
trying to get them at the top for longer than feeding sessions i just
need to find the right plant.. maybe u could try some silk plants at
the top of put a cave at the top using suction cups?

keep me updated there interesting fish.. supposely they were popular
back in ancient egypt art or something, have you read that?

well that is a totally unfounded comment, becuase how can they eat fish that
are in another tank?

~I had not read about the egyptian connection, but that is interesting.
Their tank is right next to my computer and they must have been ready my
screen when I posted, as they were milling about all day yesterday and they
have been out and about this morning. This could be down to the loss of one
of the female bettas, maybe they feel safer now there is only one?

I have a broad leaf plant in the tank and they use the leaves closet to the
back of the tank near the glass to hide under.

I have also changed the small sir stone on the tank to a long one, if you
know what I mean.

My girl friend might be impressed now as I said ealier she hasn't seen them
since I bought them and now they are 'viewable' lol.

and as for bing ugly, they are ugly with those large googly eyes, but their
looks are bitter sweet, whats makes them ugly makes the pretty and
different.

I thought you said you had them in with your betta (upside-down cats),
and couldn't add any other fish such as tetras to that tank because the
betta was eating them! All I'm telling you is that if you seen the
betta eating on them - they were eating on an already dead fish - one
that the upside-down cats killed! ............... Frank

Ive never had my synodontis nigriventris kill any of my community fish. My
asian upside down catfish however is downright nasty.
