Hi,

I'm interested in adding live plants to my tank. Does anyone know plants
that may fit this description...easy to care for, grow fast, won't be eaten
by tigerbarbs (or gourami, zebra danios), and don't require much light. And
plants that are carried by most fish stores.

Also, I have a fluor light 15W that came with my 26g tank. Is this enough
to grow/maintain some plants? I want to upgrade to something with more
wattage. I'm not much of a do-it-yourself person, so do any stores sell
something like 36W x2 bulbs and fixtures for a 26g bow tank? Or is it
fairly simple to upgrade this light myself with some kind of kit? Any help
is appreciated!

Thanks

Bow tanks suck when it comes to being able to buy better lighting for
them. You can however easily add a retro kit and they are not hard to
in stall really........Do y9ou habve a petsmart or petco store in your
are, if so they have all the plants yu need. Generlaly look for light
green plants as they are not as demanding on light for the most part.
Anubia, java fern, vilasria, cabomba, corckscrew grasses etc al do
pretty decent with typical OEM lights on most tanks. None of the fish
you mention will bother those plants listed.

On the light upgrade check out AHSupply for a retro kit. They produce
a very good retro kit using compact florescent bulbs. Pretty straight
fporward retro. Pull guits out of current light assembly, place new
reflector in place and drill two holes to attach bulb clip and
reflector. Drill two more holes on hood to attach ballast, attach
wires as per instructions,.plug it in and your done. I think you can
get by with either a 1 x 55 or a 1 x 36 watt retro kit. At most you
may have to trim a corner or so on the reflector but its easy enough
with a decent scissors if you do not have a tin snips.
