I've had several see the three year mark, but there seems to be a
die-back at about a year and a half...
good luck,

I'm new to all this e-mail stuff - can you please decipher the last 3

My husband and myself are both avid Tropical Fish-keepers. We would be
glad to e-mail you with our experiences.
We have had very few problems with WCMM's; they seem quite hardy. The
only main thing being that they are deemed to be tropical fish, but live
naturally in cold waters {ie mountain streams in China, near Canton.
Check out page 115 of the Practical Encyclopaedia of Freshwater Tropical
Aquarium Fishes by Dick Mills & Dr. Gwynne Vevers. This book is
published by Salamander Books, ISBN No. 0 86101 157 0 and costs approx.
GBP15.00 - It is a *VERY* good reference source}.
Is your tank temperature the problem? It may be (judging by the other
fish that you keep them with that require a higher temperature) that
they are just too hot!? WCMM's are perfectly happy living in an un-
heated tank, just the same as living with the kid's goldfish. (If the
WCMM's are big enough, or the golfish are small, they will live happily
in the same tank).
Bruce (my other half) and I are part of a thriving aquarist group in the
UK, CADAS (Corby and District Aquarist Society). CADAS was started in
1952, and has been going from strength to strength since then. We would
love to trade experiences with you, and trade society (I think you call
them Forums) magazines.
Many regards
Sharon
P.S. Bruce's CB handle is (was) Ford Prefect. Hope to hear from you
soon.

While I agree with your generalization, I can't help mentioning the
exception White Cloud of over two years chasing after zebra danios
in my girlfriend's 80F tank.
Everybody agrees White Clouds are "coldwater" fish, but every book I've
read gives a different temperature range that is acceptable. A low of
68 deg agrees with the highest number I've read. The lowest I've seen
in print was 55 deg. I keep White Clouds in unheated tanks. At this
instant they are at 78 deg, and they can get above 80. In the winter
they thrive at 60-65 deg.
They seem to live for about 3 or 4 years. I'm now on my 3rd batch, but
a couple of the 2nd batch are still healthy (and some got eaten by
goldfish instead of dying of old age). They are usually pretty hardy,
but a couple times when a bought 3 or 6 minnows one would die off in
a couple weeks, the others were fine. Probably too much stress.

I have many white clouds and they can live for at least 2 years. I have
some that are 3.5 years old and still look fine. White clouds don't like
hot water. Keep them in water near 65-70F and they'll be happy :)

Theory goes...Fish have NO life spans..for a fish to die it has to
be because of an external condition, like parasites, bad water and
such.
