I've got a 1.5" oscar in a 29gal tank with a 3" pleco. I know the pleco prefers
the dark when feeding, but my oscar seems to want to go and hide (or mope)
whenever I turn on the hood light. I've tried placing a piece of cardboard with
various holes directly under the light (thus reducing the amount of light in the
tank), but this still does not seem to make him happy. When the light is turned
off, the oscar swims out and starts looking eagerly for food. I've never fed
him/her with the light off, so that shouldn't be what he's used to (only had him
a little over a week anyway). Help! Am I doomed to have a fish that is only
exciting when you can't see him? Should I leave the light on all the time and
try to break his will?

Also, what is a good pH for this tank? I read it yesterday, and it was 7.9.
Should it be more acidic? And if so, how can I best go about changing it?
Thanks.
