Thought of more last night, but can't seem to remember them today. How
about posting some names you might know, let's see what Appalachia has
contributed in terms of impact on the US and world.

How about Carrol Dale, who played for the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl
1 and 2? He went to J.J. Kelly High School in Wise, Va.

Wasn't Jerry West from W.Va.? And my uncle Buzz Nutter was raised in
W.Va. He was a center for the Baltimore Colts back when they won the
Super Bowl with Johnny Unitas. He's not famous, but quite an
accomplishment from someone who attended Vinson High School.
Professional football sure was a lot different back then, too! What
other sports figures have come from Appalachian area?

Another famous basketball player from West Virginia -- Hal Greer from
Huntington. At one time he and Jerry West were both in the top five of
all time NBA scorers.
Also didn't Marshall coach Cam Henderson invent the fast break?
Also of historical interest. Exxum Clement was the first woman elected in
the state of North Carolina to serve as a member of the NC Legislature
before the vote was accorded to women.
Also Zebulon Vance, Civil War Governor of NC was from Appalachia as well.
