Give the web server access to the ledgersmb directory - How can I do that?

Hi,
I am not really a Linux beginner but I do not have any experience in
configurating an apache server.
Now I installed LedgerSMB (that is an erp/crm software for small
businesses) on my Debian system. Tryint to start the setup.pl I found
that I first of all have to "Give the web server access to the ledgersmb
directory" as is written in the documentation of LedgerSMB.
So I checked the documentation for Apache and did not understand it.
May I ask for help here? I mean it cannot be that difficult, the problem
in this case is not the software but the one sitting in front of the
monitor.
