I am setting up my backup system...

Are there any files I should backup for my AOL account?

Are there any settings or information I would lose if I have a crash?

Or does AOL keep a packet of my personal info/settings on their server?

Thanks!

AOL or you can backup your address list, favorite places,
and the filing cabinet. But the few times that AOL crashed
catastrophically and had to be reinstalled, the biggest nuisances
were resetting all of the preferences and resizing dozens
of window sizes and placements to my liking.

Backup everything at least once.
Then always backup the AOL organize folder & it's contents.
You may also wish to manually save the filing cabinet and special places
as unique files in another non-AOL directory & then back that up too.

BTW, alt.america-online.wurk & alt.aol.cypher ??

No, I had those and would copy-paste them
from the old AOL version to the new.
(AOL 4.0 or 5.0)

address book, possibly some other things, but not settings of window
locations and sizes. These are saved in the idb\main.idx file, if I
recall correctly. It may not be such a good idea to copy that file over,
it seems to break easily, making a re-installation necessary. It should
definitely not be copied from one version of AOL to a higher or lower one.
