As for those who don't like it, don't subscribe. If AOL is as remotely as
bad as you all suggest, don't worry, it will slough off subscribers by
the hundreds of thousands.
? How about the cheesy, really slow interface and the 32K segment
breaking? No quoting, over-simplified design? Notice that?
: Have I simply lucked out?
No.
: Have my letters not gone through and I never knew it?
Maybe. Check with someone.
: Did I never receive letters which were sent to me?
You probably did receive at least one letter.
: Someone please let me know why I
: have enjoyed my fool's paradise so much and why so many others have
: signed up and stayed on AOL.
You know the saying "Ignorance is bliss?"
: If AOL is as remotely as
: bad as you all suggest, don't worry, it will slough off subscribers by
: the hundreds of thousands.
Uh huh. Read that post of what Steve Case said (if it's still
around) about him taking advantage of the ignorant out there that say
"Hmmm... I guess I can get this internet thing..." Look at it. Is it
still up? TIN automatically hide articles you read (if you just press
right-arrow that is). I like how TIN does that. You just have to read
the new posts. Much better than some others.

A brief perusal of the friendly posts here should give you an inkling
on how and why AOL is a slow, over-priced excuse of an online service for
lamers who like colorful icons..

P.S. I note you are on both Fraudigy AND AOL. Like paying bills dontcha.
First of all you pay too much for too little. This is, of course, the
result of ignorance. (Ignorance, NOT stupidity - Ignorance is curable, to
leave ignorance uncured is stupidity).
Second, AOL has censorship.
Third, AOL will not lose subscribers because most of them won't get their
ignorance cured. These are the ones that must be flamed. You see, in the
real world, If I can't play baseball or football well, I had better either
bulk up or stay off the field. In Virtual Space you have only your mind.
This is a competitive world and an even more competetive country. Yet
when it comes to education and Virtual space, suddenly everyone starts
whining that it's too hard and that we shouldn't be competetive.
In time Net-space will be divided into safe zones for those who continue
to refuse to cure their ignorance and "football fields" where the Net
elite can play.

Between Bast and Eris who needs Temptation?
The "Baywatch" effect.
AOL e-mail works, except when it doesn't. It crashed the entire
weekend, and there were major snafu's over the 4th of July Weekend.
People have also reported mail getting lost; someone even posted in AOL's
complaint area that e-mail he'd sent was bouncing to different addresses.
Files can't be attached to internet e-mail, and you've already pointed out
AOL's e-mail is much slower than internet e-mail...
This is not to begin to cover AOL's Usenet posting, which automatically
misattributes any reply, re-wraps quoted text into unintelligibilty, and
starts you with an uncustomizable message base several months old. In
addition, any message you post may be monitored by your Net Buddy for
possible account termination.
Posts you make to AOL boards can be pulled for any reason. And AOL
reserves the right to alter their Terms of Service without notice.
(Mary5913 has been having *alot* of trouble with her mail lately...)
Final argument: I notice you're posting from Prodigy...
