I spent an evening in Sydney Australia listening to a man named Peter
Shenstone relate his studies of dolphins and whales. He covered biology,
history, legend, anecdotes of interactions between people and dolphins,
myths and more.

It was a wonderful evening and I came away sure there was more to dolphins
and whales than I had ever imagined.

There are also places in the US where people are putting disturbed and
retarded children with dolphins and seeing positive results. I don't have
the facts on that though.

I went to a place called Monkey Mia in western Australia and there were
wild dolphins and humans "being together" [sorry, no other way for me to
describe it]. It was an amazing thing to see and be around. The dolphins
came in off the Indian Ocean every day. Sometimes 5 of them, sometimes 30.
It had been going on for over 20 years.

Love to hear what else you discover.

regards

Oh, yes! And it's not only dolphins. Dogs and cats, and even plants
are known to significantly prolong life spans and lighten
depressions. I beleive it is because the depressed or dying person
wants to see the animal again, or watch the flower bloom. And the
mere presence of an animal full of life and happy to be with you, can
brighten anyone's day. Anyone with a pet that enthusiastically greets
them every evening upon the return home, or even some one that reads
the "Cathy" cartoon will understand.(I refer to Cathy's dog, Electra.)

Welllll..... although I lack any clinical evidence, I can speak
for myself to say that spending some time with them (captive
situations) usually does a -lot- to lighten my mood.

Come to think of it, the same holds true for most of the animals I
have an interest in (raptors, llamas, snakes, iguanas, etc. I like
fruit bats as well).

Oh my.... ROFL, big-time! :-)

I have but one question. Are you sure this was the Dizzy Channel,
and not just a rerun of 'Weekly World News?' <huge grin> Gad... that's
a good one. I've not heard that in years.

I agree, in principle. In fact, my own observations have shown me
behavior that I am unable to account for as anything other than a
sense of humour.

However, I would urge caution. It is just as wrong to
over-anthropomorphize dolphins as it is to view them as emotionless,
instinct-driven automatons. There is a middle ground, and it is
critical to find it if one is to gain a balanced perspective of the
critters.

In short, dolphins have their 'bad hair' days just as people do.
And I have the scars to prove it.

Science says that they date back about 300,000 years, and came
from land-based ungulates (read: cows) that re-evolved into a form
suitable for life in the sea.

As for religion, I leave that up to you. All I will say is that I
believe them to be yet another example of God's handiwork (and a darn
good one at that!).

I believe the phenomenon that you heard about deals with the
peculiar way that dolphin's sonar can interact with the human Cnetral
Nervous System....the sonar echo clicks have sometimes seemingly
stabilized an erraticly operating CNS and has been believed to have cured
depression and other Neuroligical Disorders....
It is also believed that the sonar helps dolphins detect
abnormalities of physical sorts as well....it would be easy for any being
with sonar abilities to detect an errant tumor if that being had had
contact with humans for a period of time....

Dear Anita, Yes, yes and yes. In Key Largo, the Dolphin Research
Institute has been working with children with emotional and learning
problems and the children have responded sometimes for the first time in
their lives. There is a playfulness with dolphins that assists healing
and much has been done at that center with the focus on the health of the
dolphin first. In the book EARTH by Barbara Marciniak, there is
information re: people's connection to dolphins and their appearance on
this planet. Dolphins auras are similar to humans, but they operate
totally from the love frequency, something we humans continue to desire
living our daily lives within. As a writer and a healer, I am drawn to
swim with them, and when you read about that in EARTH you will see why
also. There is another healing aspect from dolphins, although I sense
they will heal anyone within their auric fields quite spontaneously, and
that has to do with childhood trauma. Enjoy your explorations, those
drawn to dolphins are on a healing track.

<: dolphin offers toning to anyone who enjoys making sound. the intention is for healing the
self and the earth. the plan is to gather at the beginning of each month for all interested
participants. email: dol...@laplaza.taos.nm.us :>
