Female dog desire ?

Hi Everyone,

We have just rescued a dog from a shelter; she
has a great personality, except the one problem with her is that she
ocassionally likes to "rut" against my husband's leg or arm ! She is a
mixed breed and I have heard that female dogs do pretend to rub up
against legs but not necessarily in a sexual way; can anyone tell me
why she does this ??
