Hi, I'm new to this.

What is angst? Does it mean sadness? Is it an acronym for something?
I've seen the word lots of places before, but never looked it up.

Don't worry about looking it up. We are here to help you understand
about angst. Contrary to most people's beliefs, angst is NOT sadness or
depression or melancholy. As a matter of fact, angst IS just the
opposite which means "happiness" and "joy", from the Italian "angstiari"
meaning "intense experience of ecstasy".

Very brief rules: you can only post about things that are happy and
lighthearted. The use of Barney to promote happiness and well-being is
condoned. And above all, you must use at least two smilies in every posting.

You're welcome. :)

someone this naive really exists. perhaps you are under the age of 10?
that might explain it.

Angst is kind of like love, except its polar opposite: You know it
when you feel it. It's many things and it's the same thing. It's
cynicism about society. It's disgust with those who are busy living
their yuppie, snobby, shells of lives, and those who are so goal-
oriented or outstanding-citizen types. I could go on, but this is
basically what I feel. Like I said, it can be many things.

Hello, and welcome to the Angst Boat...I'm Julie, your cruise director.
Allow me to show you around and give you an insight into what a
*wonderful* time you'll have while sailing on the Goddess Lines.

On the top deck, we have all the basics, that which we might be tempted
to call angst but really isn't. This includes the faqlboard tournament
and the pool of self pity.

On the second level, we have the who'snotwho dining room, where meals are
served at all hours of the day and night. Our menu consists of ramen
noodles. Our specialty is sauted heart, flavored with a dash of salty
tears. And don't forget to try our filet of soul. And to drink, there
is always plenty of Zima!

On the third level, we begin to enter the bowels of the ship. The Kant
Getlayed Dance Floor is always the hot spot. And for the more studious,
may be suggest the Steven Snedker Memorial Library, featuring all the a.a
reading list. All the Nabokov is usually out. Can I get you some Heinlein?

We now reach the fourth level, home of the world famous lounge without a
name. The show is usually terrific, unless the writer has been told
she's been really terrific lately, in which case it's not so terrific.

And ah, the fifth level. The cabins. The grandest of them all is of
course the DDJLFH suite. It's a double. And on the starboard side, we
have the ship's arsenal. All AK-47s. Ooops, one seems to be checked
out. Be careful...has anyone seen that PC Specialist around? Something
about guns and being recently summarily dismissed...

We enter the sixth level, the angstcon level. Some people never make it
this far, but there are many fond memories for those who do. Oh, those
guys over there? Those are tourists who were hijacked...

The seventh level is oft called the Prozac level. It's where the
infirmary is located. Anything to make your journey a little more
pleasant, although we can't promise to find anything to cure that
constant queasyness in your stomach. You sure its to psychosomatic?

The eighth level. This is the database for the homepage. Step
carefully, lots of important stuff here.

And the ninth level, this is where we toss all the newbies who say we're
rude. It's called the killfile.

Julie, you strike me as the kind of person who taped 'kick me' signs to
kids backs when you were in grade school :)

Ever considered joining the ranks of the the elite?
Ever get a hankerin' to put on a badge and become one of the few, the proud,

dude, *life* is really rude. it's especially rude to people who can't
be fucking bothered to read a newsgroup before asking the sorts of
stupid questions that faq's exist to answer.

think of the newbie-flaming here as evolution in action, okay.
