Dear Editor,
I am writing to tell the difference between
Capitalism and Communism. Here are three reasons that
show the major differences. Here they are as follows.
Capitalism and Communism are two very different
types of government used to some extent today. Capitalism
is based on a free market, individual investments and
decisions, and making money. Capitalists own capital,
means of production, of companies and benefit from others’ labor.
Communism is based on liberating the conditions of
the proletariat, or lower class. Communism uses communal
ownership and has a hope of better economical equality.
Communists want to spread the wealth more evenly throughout
the people. Carl Marx started the idea of Capitalism, or
Socialism, during the Industrial Revolution. He witnessed
the horrible conditions the proletariats were living under,
and how wealthy the factory, owning bourgeoisie were becoming.
He wanted to create a more fair system. However, it is not fair at all.
Capitalism allows people to be who they want, achieve
what they want, and live how they want. One may decide to work
hard his whole life and earn a lot of money, so that he may own
a large house. Others may choose to simply live comfortably in
a small house with a small income. Capitalism allows people to
make their own decisions about their lives. However, Communism
does the opposite. People are forced to settle for being average.
Everyone is the same as everyone else and nobody is allowed to want
to be richer or more successful than others, because everyone shares.
Unfortunately, humans are not naturally settling. People are
competitive by nature and Communism goes against that idea and
restricts people to being average. One reason people are only
average under Communism is the fact that there is no motivation.
People have no reason to work hard, do good deeds, or become
something great. Under Communism, everyone shares and will end
up with the same wealth anyway. There is no individual motivation.
This also hurts the community and country. Since people have no
motivation to do great things, the country will not produce anything
great. There will be no cures to cancer, or new space advancements.
What is the point of achieving that when one would not benefit from it?
If a country uses Communism, it will not become better over
time, it will fall behind other countries in economy and technological
advancements. As you can see, Capitalism is clearly better than
Communism. People can be individuals, do what they want with their
lives, and be something great. Capitalism gives motivation and that
leads to success as a country. I do not understand how people can
live under Communism and have their lives be restricted and held down
to an average level. Capitalism lets people be free. That is all.
Sincerely, Lee Emilienburg
That comment is more inane than anything in the essay. Your
grammar is much better, though.
