yes.. too:
CNCD - Deep, Closer, Killer
Ozone - Smokebomb
Ephidrena - Concrete, Bier
Virtual Dreams - Faktory, Sumea
Mankind - New World Child
Bizarre Arts?? - Exit Planet Dust, Fresh
more??
with special emphasis on:
TBL - Senseless, Rain
DCS - Klone, Phenomenon, Nonstop, 2CB
SCX - 1000%
LNS - The Morning Trip, Impossible
did i forget any?? what has Haujobb done then??
and your brill production Relic of course.. and Extravaganja too..
hope we can expect more productions from NVX in the future - definately raised
the bar on the Amiga..
these all run fine on an 040/40 with fast ram.. don't know about under emu
though..
what's the deal with smarty-smart java coders Digital Nerds - are they
ex-Amiga?? which groups do you know??
a little let down by some of Complex java demos - fake raytracing and what..
expect more when running them on a high spec PII.. hmm..
cheers!!

don't they always have that line - Amiga freaks do it better - in their
productions though?? wonder where that came from.. still some of the best work in
Java i've seen though..

oh, i think Java is definitely viable.. just the fact that i can run them on
Windows, Mac and Linux - in the browser no less - justifies it's existence.. just
digging through the resources in some of the (maybe earlier??) Komplex java
stuff, and find a lot of prerendered jpgs and mp3s and what, kinda lessens the
experience.. great website though..
how about those PSX demos.. i've never seen any or anything about them other than
they exist.. fun stuff or what?? :)

when i think about adding a demo to my personal archive, i rate it, in my head,
out of 10.. anything above a 5 i keep.. i rated Bomb a 5.. there were others
too.. but then when those new TBL productions - Senseless and Rain - came out,
they threw off the whole curve.. Bomb became a 4 - so i dropped it.. now i
think something like Mute12 by MaWi is a 5.. i am waiting for the next gen
demos from this year to come out, maybe that will be dropped too..
will have to look for JWADM though - haven't heard of it..
couple others i didn't mention: Skarla - WWROOE or something like that.. also
Alien2 by SCX.. hmm.. i know there are more..
cheers!! -kK

What's Senseless? I must say I've never heard about that demo. Captured
Dreams should be also included, perhaps Tint, too.

Before Finns left and formed Loveboat Speedo + Bay Tremore + Muffler did
quite a nice row of intros. Some like 'em, some don't (at least Edit 0.5
is sure worth watching). And of course My Kingdom, tho' it was a co-op
with Scoopex.

Other demos that should be in those lists (IMHO):
NVX - Pulse, winner of asm97 and runs fine with 030/50
Skarla - When we ride on our enemies (Ride), probably the best and
smoothest 3D-engine on amiga, but needs 060.
TRSI - Rise
Potion - Gift, 64k-intro, stunning amount of effects and stuff :)
Ephidrena - Omnicrom, 64k
Exploder - Push, 64k
Incision, placed second on combined (PC&Amiga) 64k-compo asm2k!
All 4k intros: Freedom, Gap, Humus (won asm2k!), Revision...
and some others whose attitude I like :)
Mawi - Datablade
Venture - Face off
Embassy - Myster Tremor
Powerline - The Law
Abyss - Extralife

Senseless was released at TRSAC 2000 party...it's quite same style with
Rain.
BTW. for PC users there's some mpegs of TBL demos at
ftp://mirror.support.nl/pub/tbl/download/movies :) Senseless is missing
though...
And yes, they do seem to make some wicked Java code :)

uhh you're in for a ruude surprise if you dig around like that :)
I've seen demo's in java where all effects where sets of pre-rendered
frames.. I didn't appreciate that either...
If my code runs at 30 frames cause of speedproblems, and a piiece of
prerendered garbage runs 60 frames and wins.. I would feel very very
evil towards the 'coder' of the garbage

was it better than the PSX stuff i saw at mekkasymposium2k?
'coz that was like 'hmm if you can only do THIS on a console, then why
bother if there are pcs around?' (yes okay, i know why they bothered,
because most of the people who had the capabilities of programming
and democoding for a console because of their work were among the
party orgo's but anyway that's besides the point now)
but anyway i thought the PSX demos did less than the average pc demo.
is that generally true?

well, it'll not look as impressive as it can on pc...
but remember we're talking about a 4 (5?) years old platform here, with
the cpu power of a 386 :)
-ryg
i think it first came out 6 years ago actually - or maybe just in Japan..
and actually it has a 34 MHz 32 bit RISC processor, operating at 30 MIPS -
which places it quite a bit above the 386.. plus graphics hardware, no??

yes, CNCD+Parallax i should say.. though i'm not sure if Closer and Killer
were also team efforts.. one question too - who was the coding talent
behind those 3 productions?? is that Case?? i know that Yolk+Legend for
music, and Louie for amazing art and direction.. and today still.. was
Rubberduck also behind Killer?? i forget now..

Captured Dreams yes.. Tint has a few nice effects, but direction, music and
pace are sub par.. very similar to many Polish demos these days..
Senseless yes, is very similar to Rain - though Rain is the better
production.. actually one of the best ever..

hmm.. i know i've seen some Haujobb and not been too impressed.. Loveboat
too actually.. will look for those you mentioned though.. thanks!!
y'r pal -kK
> Other demos that should be in those lists (IMHO):

yes Pulse is very good - i would compare it to Captured Dreams.. it was the new
school AGA demos, but before the next gen (Killer, Rain, Relic, Concrete..)
> Skarla - When we ride on our enemies (Ride), probably the best and

great demo - actually perfectly smooth on my 040/40 too..
> TRSI - Rise
> Potion - Gift, 64k-intro, stunning amount of effects and stuff :)
how come the download for Gift off ftp.amigascne.org is over a meg then?? (i think)
not too impressed by Potion productions including Gush (which i think Gift is the
sequel).. too much emphasis on 3D.. not enough on art and direction.. demos like
those do not withstand the test of time..
> Ephidrena - Omnicrom, 64k
Ephidrena has also really matured.. Concrete was brill.. Flux too was good demo
where you could see the direction they were going.. Loaderror is only 19 too (i
think)
> Exploder - Push, 64k
> Incision, placed second on combined (PC&Amiga) 64k-compo asm2k!

4Ks are all impressive because of amount of effects, but Bier by Ephidrena is on a
whole other level - amazing effects plus great art direction and sound (!!)
> and some others whose attitude I like :)
>
> Mawi - Datablade
> Venture - Face off
> Embassy - Myster Tremor

yes Extralife i like too.. about comparable to EPH-Flux (i guess i like comparing
things)
Datablade way overrated.. Mawi is part of that uninspired Polish front.. maybe same
or better is Mute12.. though suffers from many of the faults from Datablade..
mostly bad editing and art direction.. sceners like DCS-Adam and TBL-Louie
invaluable in making all the difference in elevating the productions of a group..
Mute12 i still keep because they use rich backgrounds from graphic novel - very
nice color composition.. but not all of it.. the picture they start the demo with
and many early effects are old school and slow the pace down.. hmm.. maybe you will
have to see it for yourself :) almost worth it for one very nice variation on an
effect from DCS-Phenomenon (a much much better demo)
> great demo - actually perfectly smooth on my 040/40 too..
Oh..hmm..should see it on 040/40, but 040/25 isn't any smooth compared to
060/60 ;)

This is way better than other crappy prods from Potion :) Ok, there's much
3D etc, but the amount of effects and parts and music makes it one of the
most impressive 64k intro I've seen...
The archive is so big, because it includes some bonus stuff like music
from intro in dbm format.

Yeah, Concrete and other new stuff from Eph are my favourites too..still
waiting something big after Turn up the hype from trsac2k ;)

Yeah..I too rate that as best 4k intro...didn't mention it, because it was
mentioned earlier posts :)
dEEP was by Parallax. dEEP psilocybin mix by Parallax+CNCD. Rest by
CNCD. As far I know Parallax didn't release anything after Asm'95
(Zif) but instead some of the members merged to CNCD.
For the people behind all these great CNCD demos: Yolk & Legend did indeed
most of the tunes, although it was Groo behind Closer music. Amazing art
was (and is still) created by Destop. Louie did some gfx only for
Killer. On the code side it was mostly Juliet & Case.
I assume you know Katastro.fi's Codename Chinadoll was also made by
mostly old CNCD guys.

Tint is worth watching just to wait eight minutes for that kinky end
scroller music. :)
ah. okay then i understand. i'm not really into console platforms so i
thought it was like a really advanced hypercool megaaccelerated thing.
..but it wasn't :)
> -ryg
Groo did C42 tune too.
psilocybin mix had code by Simply and Debug too.

Anyone know where to find more quality Amiga productions in MPEG format
Well, assuming that our DemoDVD project is successful, I can almost
guarantee you that the next disc in the series will be Amiga demos.
However, it remains to be seen whether or not we'll have 2 hours of demos
(PAL on one side and NTSC on the other) or 4 hours of demos (NTSC on
both sides). While all (decent :-) Amiga demos are PAL, the disc has to
be NTSC in some way so as to be playable in America and Japan (hardly any
NTSC players play PAL discs, but almost all PAL players play NTSC discs).

i'm pretty sure i have the original dEEP and that is CNCD+Parallax as far as i
know..

oh Destop!! how could i forget :) he actually made my vote for best graphician
EC41 - CNCD was the motivating factor in my voting.. they were and are still so
far ahead of their time in the scene - it is disappointing the demos that place
above Killer on EC and how ones like Closer even are completely missing..

dE3P & dE3P Psilocybin Mix was by both Parallax&CNCD.
Simply, Debug and Bandog did code to dE3P and Bandog didn't do anything
to dE3P Psilo, it was all Simply&Debug fun. CNCD was represented by
Destop who was seeking best coders to fullfill his dreams:D
