alt.binaries.amazon-athletes
It has been suggested that the word "women" not be in the name to help keep
out spammers.
Idiot, use the "nospam" in the title like I told you before.

What kind of Dr are you, exactly? A witch doctor? An acupuncturist?
Chriopractor? Homeopath? Psycopath? All of the above? Or do think
putting the word "Dr" in front of user-name will somehow make you, the
man who aspires to be a loser, some kind of chick magnet?
And remember to start the new group in the proper way. Many ISPs won't
carry "renegade" groups.

For some reason I don't like the sound of "amazon" (so shoot me). Maybe it is
because my own taste is more oriented to "real' athletes (I mean athletes who
play sports), fitness competitors, and bodybuilders and less with session
wrestling, lift and carry, etc.
If the word "women" in "amazon-women" doesn't attract spammers (and it is not
too bad in this NG) then the word "women" in "athletic-women" won't either.
Alternatively, someone (I am not volunteering you, Paul) could set up a nospam
group. That is one where the sysop deletes the spam so the reader never sees
it.
Looking forward to this!
Just my 2 cents -Larry

They'll target any ALT. newsgroup if it has any kind of traffic.
Consider a REC. or MISC. prefix...

Another dumb idea by a dumb idiot. Just what the world needs, another
empty alt. newsgroup to fill up with spam.
Hey Goode, DO let the door hit you in the ass on the way out of here.

Try alt.binaries.nospam.amazon-women.

I agree that "amazon" may not have the right connotations if you want to
attract people who may be sports fans rather than guys who are in to
Femdom.
Although many of us want a newsgroup without spam, how does a nospam
group work in actual practice? Does it require a human moderator? What
are the rules that designate what is called spam and what is ok to post?
Mike
I think if you keep out the spammers you also keep out people who are
genuinely interested in the newsgroup. A spammer might use the word
"woman" or "female" as key word, but then again, so would an aficionado
of female athletes. Whereas, the word "amazon" or even "fem" might not
come to mind for someone interested in, say, gymnasts.
Mike
Cross posting here. Didn't see this thread before I posted to the other. I
agree about a lack of fondness for the word 'amazon', ultimately though it's
always content and in the case of a NG, activity - nullifiing any genuine
concerns over name choice. Avoiding spammers is a good reason though for
careful concideration of the name. My suggestion below includes AAWA in it.
Paying a little homage to the NG.

Not really sure how the spammers go about selecting NGs, but that line of
thought seems plausable enough. Since the people who will use and promote the
proposed NG will be AAWA'ers and other related NGs how about
alt.binaries.AAWA which is cryptic to anyone not in the know. Any femuscle
admirerers will ineviably find out about it from a related website or NG.
Unless the spammers are actually visiting groups to learn the subject matter,
a somewhat cryptic name might help. I think Poster was on the right track
with that suggestion. The moderator idea is a possibility as well, though for
a binaries NG it would be a tremendous burden on the moderator(s), even those
with high bandwidth connections... face it, that is a LOT of downloading, and
reviewing for anyone (single or multiple moderators alike) to do on a regular
basis.

What if Bomb is right? What if spammers target binary NG's? Then it
wouldn't matter what the key words were? Maybe that is the real reason
AAWA hasn't been "contaminated" with processed canned meat of relatively
low nutritional value. That IS how Spam compares to the grade A beef
we normally see around here.
Anyhow, my NG server doesn't pick up binaries, probably because of too
much bandwidth. I have been told that posting pictures on nonbinaries
is forbidden. I am lucky that, for some obscure reason, we can still
get away with posting pictures on AAWA.
And I disagree that spreading the word around among us the most ideal
way to filter out spammers. That is "inbreeding" from a biologist's
perspective. We want people from the "outside" to join us. That is
why I still say that "Amazon" is not the most suitable key word.
I do agree that having someone moderate the NG would be a tremendous
amount of time and effort, especially for neither pay nor recognition!
But I wouldn't be happy with a mail filter program, which would
invariably remove "good" posts and let "bad" ones through the sieve.
Mike
You may want to look into that - 99.5% of the other posts don't do that.

Never said anything about spreading the word among us. I said anyone
interested in finding the group ineviably would. There's no such thing as an
"outsider" when it comes to admirering female muscularity you either do or
you don't. Those who don't aren't even necessarily outsiders... for example,
the stage hands at a women's bodybuilding contest may well be repulsed by
such female muscularity, yet in the course of their duties become privy to
"insider" conversation >> "blah, blah, theres a new one called
alt.binaries.AAWA, blah, blah, and did you see such and such's new gallery on
thevalkyrie.com? blah, blah" >> all stage hands raise your hand............
chirp, chirp, chirp.......... guess not. But those stage hands aren't
outsiders anymore (for all the good it did in piquing their interest enough
to join our ranks).
If your 92 year old grandpa likes female muscularity and just got on the net
for the first time he'll ask "how do I get stuff?" you say search engines, 5
hours later gramps is scouring the posts to AAWA via Deja. Gramps went
looking of his own accord, if he had no interest and you said "Hey Gramps,
check this out!", he'd be disowning you the following day.
