Created as a reaction against abstract expressionists
such as <wink> Jackson Pollock, embracing and often
subtly critisizing the world of commercial images
we live in, often using the collaging techniques
invented by the Dadaists and Surrealists.
Unlike Dadaists, pop artists don't aim at pure shock value.
Unlike surrealists, they avoid personal references,
presenting cool surfaces, avoiding commentary, emotional
involvement. They just present close-ups of industrial society.
Cool. Very cool. Maybe too cool for my tastes. But fun.
