Two boys were punished this week for refusing to kneel on prayer mats
and worship Allah during a class demonstration on Islam, the Daily
Mail reported.
Irate parents said a religious education teacher at the Alsager High
School in England told students to wear Muslim headgear during a
lesson on Tuesday. "But if Muslims were asked to go to church on
Sunday and take Holy Communion, there would be war," the grandfather
of one of the students said.
The two boys belong to a class that includes 11- to 12-year-olds, and
after their refusal to participate they were given detention, the
story says.
Another parent, Karen Williams, told the Mail: "Not only was it forced
upon them, my daughter was told off for not doing it right. They'd
never done it before and they were supposed to do it in another
language."
Deputy Headmaster Keith Plant said the teacher has given her version
of the incident but he declined to elaborate.
According to a statement from the Cheshire County Council on behalf of
the school: "Educating children in the beliefs of different faith is
part of the diversity curriculum on the basis that knowledge is
essential to understanding.
"We accept that such teaching is to be conducted with some sense of
sensitivity."
Since the staid Brits will be the first Yurpn nation to become a full
fledged Muslim state, they are merely preparing their citizens for the
Sharia concept of justice. And they are going for it. Nancy Pelosi and
Harry Reid expressed an interest in learning more about this educational
program.
You've got to wonder if the would be participants were afraid they'd
abandon their own beliefs for those of Islam. I guess religious faith
must be like walking on egg shells.

A side comment: Perhaps it all happened exactly as described, but it might
be a good idea to wait until both sides are heard officially. On rare
occasions children have been known to incorrectly report what a teacher said
or did.
True. Which is why I went by what my daughter's school sent home as
homework - one day studying a timeline that added the Exodus to actual
history. Her principal heard about that one (from me). OTOH, I had no
problem with them teaching her the history of a region's religious
beliefs and how they influenced trade routes, politics, etc. Knowledge
is power, as long as it sides with reality.
If indeed this is true, it is taking the concept of 'Education' and
'Understanding'
too far by what *I* would only describe as Forceful, Political Correct
Bullsh*t.
Education and Understanding of different cultures/beliefs/faiths can be
achieved
without ~such Methods~.
First 'Forcing' and then 'Punishing' the children for refusing 'to act'
against their
own conscience is an Infringement of their Human Rights 'and' a Crime
against
Humanity.
'The Force' being the Infringement of their Human Rights
and...
'The Punishment' being the Crime against Humanity
Ayup. And the religious reich has been known to blow things totally out
of proportion.
A flap like this happened here a few years back (here being the US,
specifically CA schools). Turned out there wasn't any real substance to
the story.
There is a great deal of hysteria all over the world right now, and it has
long-since become scary.
Bullshite.

More bullshite.

Couldn't agree more. My son came home one day with homework from his
Religious Education teacher.
He was to write an essay entitled "How I see my god."
I sent in a letter explaining that we were atheists and his 'completed'
essay was on the blank sheet of paper enclosed.
I never did get a reply, but he wasn't marked down for not completing it.
It's disappointing to see it popping up in Europe but, well, there are
nutcases all over.
Seems to me, though, it's, at worst, likely a "role play" exercise that
got out of hand. Once again, everybody is shocked to discover that
teachers are human beings and are actually capable of doing Very Dumb
Things.
Still, we've only heard one side of the story. I've learned from only
too many cases to hold off a while until the hysteria settles down...
Yeah I think the US audience is missing that "RE" in the story. That is,
"Religious Education". The subject was appropriate even if the teacher
handled it badly. Which we don't actually know happened. We still
haven't heard the teacher's version of events.
I don't know about anybody else but I do recall in school (upper grades)
when students who, say, didn't want to do their homework came up with
extravagant reasons. Such as Baptists (common in Texas) have church
services on Wednesday also. Now, not *one* of the kids in question ever
actually set foot in a church but they insisted they had a Good Excuse
for not doing their homework on Wednesday nights.
Meaning it certainly wasn't, "I'm lazy". It was a matter of religious
freedom!!!!
<eye roll>
We really--at this point--don't know how much of, "I was acting up in
class" is involved. The kids aren't going to say, "I was bored and
didn't want to do it". They're going to make it a Serious Incident.
Not to say kids are always full of shit but they can be. They're human too.
Dunno.
I would be willing to bet it is, as you said, an "overenthusiastic"
teacher. Teachers do use role playing in education. Maybe this one got
out of hand. Maybe some of the students were being horse's rear ends.
Maybe a little of both.
Overall, the whole thing sounds pretty damn silly to me...
Education comes before indoctrination, in my book.

We'll have to wait and see.....

And to me.
Not that I was there or anything and really know the details but if
the kids engaged in some stupid ass refusal to do what the teachers
ask then they ought to be punished for it.
And frankly I think this is actually a pretty useful exercise all
things considered; the way I see it the more kids get forced into
doing silly boring rituals that are effectively being equivocated with
one another the more the kids will be likely to a) get bored and avoid
being religious twits when they grow up b) realize it's all a bunch of
useless rituals and no magic man is telepathically communicating with
them during any iteration of that sort of thing and so all the hubbub
about gods is just a load of shit and their parents don't know what
they're talking about.
My younger daughter, who considers herself Jewish by birth (my wife is
Jewish) even though religion is not even a part of her life, made a
comment in a class recently that she was going out to see "Horton Hears a
Who", although she playfully munged the title as "Horton Hears a Jew".
Her teacher went on a tirade about racism, for crying out loud. Shelbi
ignored the incident, probably the mature thing to do, but I asked her if
her teacher was made aware that she was "Jewish". I doubt it would
matter, and now the whole thing does seem silly.

Quit reading WingNut and try to learn some REAL facts. I live in
Britain, and there is no way we would ever become an Islamic state.
ONE loony judge said that he thinks sharia law could be applied in
CIVIL cases where both parties are Muslims and caused quite a bit of
furore over here. So much for your idiot ideas.
