Between church & state in Mississippi...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022762115

Northwest Rankin High School in Flowood, Mississippi is under fire for
allegedly forcing its students to attend and listen to Christian
lectures during three assemblies held in April alone. Worse yet,
students were barred from leaving and teachers blocked the exits to
prevent any of them from doing so. One student was able to film one of
the assemblies. As a result, a lawsuit has been filed on behalf of the
students by the American Humanist Association. The organization filed
the suit on Wednesday.

It says right here in this here 1st amendment:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to
assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

</constitution reprint carrying xtian doofus>

So, as long as Congress ain't doin' it, it's OK 'cuz this is a
god-fearin' christian country. Absolute morality demands it.

They'll appeal all the way to the supreme court and lobby for
congressional action to lubricate the process. There's little doubt
that there's ample cash to carry this through (I expect to start hearing
appeals to hammer congresscritters and send cash on jeezus radio within
the week). And no jail - god's work is unjailable.

They got stuff like Everson v. Board of Education (1947) stuck in their
craw:

Justice Hugo Black:

"The "establishment of religion" clause of the First Amendment means at
least this: Neither a state nor the Federal Government can set up a
church. Neither can pass laws which aid one religion, aid all religions,
or prefer one religion to another ... in the words of Jefferson, the
clause against establishment of religion by law was intended to erect 'a
wall of separation between church and State' ... That wall must be kept
high and impregnable. We could not approve the slightest breach."

There should be a special word in the English language to identify
people who create problems and then turn around and offer up their own
tailor-made bogus non-solutions designed to completely avoid the root
causes of the situation under consideration. 'Traitor' might be a
good choice, but lacks the requisite specificity. One of the problems
with contemporary English is it lacks many such words that would
otherwise categorically identify certain kinds of person, place, or
thing -- making it difficult or impossible to think analytically about
such objects. These shortcomings of the English lexicon are
representative of Orwellian linguistics at work in the real world.

"Racism"? are we referring to the two little compromise concessions to
extreme plutocracy in the original Constitution, about part-counting
and not interfering with the importation of "certain persons"? (the
references are always so delicate.)

What about "filled circle"? I mean, we have dot, and we have circle,
but we don't have a single word for filled circle.

I think that "dot" is a filled circle. People may assume that it is
small, but that is a (wrong and presumptive) judgement.

If you say to someone 'what colors are the dots on Wonder Bread?' they
aren't going to say 'black' for the color of the periods, they are going
to name off the colors of the big round filled circles. Dots.

"Dot" by itself DOES carry a punctate presumption, IMO:

"Dot-and-carry-one", for example.

NB too the use of the phrase "polka-dot" to get around the problem.

There's no one word for homosexual Nazi either, and obviously there is
great need. How else should we differentiate them from straight Nazis
or transgendered Nazis?

Everyone knows that Sekshual Orientation is the defining
characteristic of the individual, after all.

Oh they show Sin City on SyFi occasionally...its like some graphic novel
brought to film. Blood is white? In a B&W world I guess that makes
sense? Ive never sat thru the whole thing though. Not really a
compelling story. Seems to be a rip off of 1950's detective novels.

it kind of film noirish (film noir is one hell of an argued over
genre, there is no consesus or catholic view of what it is) if you
like that kind of film, its pretty good, i grew up watching cowboy,
gangster and film noirs on a saturday afternoon on bbc 2 during the
70's. and the ones they used to show on bbc 2 some nights during the
week during film seasons.
