American Airlines Plane Crashes Near New York's JFK Airport
NEW YORK -- An American Airlines jetliner crashed in Queens, N.Y. near John
F. Kennedy International Airport shortly after 9 a.m. EST on Monday.
The Airbus A300 apparently crashed in the Rockaway section of the borough
and at least four buildings were said to be on fire.
Cable News Network reported that American Airlines flight 587 was departing
JFK headed for Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic.
New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani was en route the crash site, according
to media reports.
In addition to JFK airport, LaGuardia and Newark airports were closed
following the crash.
American Airlines, a unit of AMR Corp. (AMR), and the Federal Aviation
Administration confirmed that the plane that crashed around 9:15 a.m. EST
was an American planes, CNN reported. The airline had no immediate comment,
according to the Associated Press.
The A300 has the capacity for around 266 people, though there was no
immediate word on how many passengers or crew members were on board.
Local police shut down the roads in the area around the site at Beach 129th
Street and Newport Avenue, CBS reported.
All bridges and tunnels going into New York City have been closed to all
traffic except for emergency vehicles, according to various media
organizations.
American Airlines stock has dropped 20.52% since the stock market opened
this morning.

Well, early on, you could tell how badly CNN was itching for this to be
terrorism. That new woman (Zahn?) whom I can't stand was really
shopping around for any tidbit that would go in that direction. And
sounded very disappointed whenever the answer sounded more like an
accident.
And their web page still contains BS on "explosion" on board.

Actually they refer to "an administration official." And an explosion
*on board.* Obviously when a plane crashes, that makes noise which
witnesses will perceive as akin to an explosion.

True. Still, I find her especially unpleasant. She shows so strongly
how high her own opinion of herself is...
Heh. Do you know when Don Henley penned that line? 1982. Yes, it
was that bad 20 years ago. News actually started its "if it bleeds it
leads" and happy talk, consultant-driven pandering back in the 1970s.
I can't remember when CNN started, but in 1982 it was either a gleam
in Turner's eye, or at best, a second-rate, shoe-string, start-up
operation. (Okay, it may or may not still be second-rate, but it's
big bidness now.) Nice reference, though.
Remember the next line, after "See the bubble-headed bleach blonde,
who comes on at five"?
"She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye."
Oh, yes!!! Henley had them skewered, drawn and quartered, even back
then.

1) No one ever lost money by underestimating the stupidity of the American
public.
2) AOL made its fortune by pandering to the stupidest %5 of computer users.
As far as AOL is concerned, there's no reason to mess with what has proven
to be a sound business strategy.

CNN? Have you watched MSNBC? Their afternoon guy actually got
visibly angry with a person he was interviewing when he couldn't
get the guy to say that the crash was probably the work of a
terrorist. Nevertheless, the most biased of all has to be FOX -
the one who constantly tries to tell you how fair and balanced
they are. The military is all wrong in the way they fight the
war, the NTSB is lying because they aren't telling us the crash
was a terrorist act, Bush shouldn't be giving away our Nukes
because we have no way of knowing how many the Russians have
pointed at us right now - etc. etc. Yep, fair and balanced - and
that all came from about 15 minutes of afternoon "news" on Fox.
Glamour? Paula Zahn. Pardon me while I die laughing. In her
dreams, she's glamorous.
Fox = Rupert Murdoch = the death of any medium he gets his paws on.

The term "Fox News" is an oxymoron.

Well, it is the best they could do, considering that it is CNN,
Clinton News Network, Clinton would get distracted by anything
good-looking, and they don't want him to stop watching..............!
Hmmmm, seems like a contradiction, doesn't it?
You mean, you think the stupid cow is actually good-looking?
Would you prefer Barbra Wawa ?
Paula Zhan may not be a supermodel any healthy male dreams about, and she may
not be an einstein, but she is not ugly.
