Hi,
I just bought a Badger 180-1, hose reducer and a 'cheap' HDC airbrush kit
with brush, hose and 2 bottles... I used to do a little T-shirt airbrush
years ago but am interested in re-learning and letting my daughter with
considerable art talent (17 yrs old) experiment... Any suggestions on what
would be the best medium / paint to learn?

Like practice on paper, metal or ? with what kind of paint??

Regards,
Jim in NC, USA

The most forgiving paint and the easiest to clean up after would be
watercolor or gouache. You can paint on paper but to save the paper from
buckling if it gets too wet you can stretch the paper first. Just soak it in
water and tape it to a flat wood panel with the wide, brown gum type tape.
Dry it with a hair dryer or just leave it to dry. When it dries it stretches
and wont buckle when it gets wet.

Then progress onto acrylics which are still easy to clean up after but can
be harder to spray. Use proper airbrush acrylics as they are usually
filtered etc and you will get less problems with paint drying on the
neeedle. Try and avoid Createx as it's a bit thick and hard to use for a
beginner.

What is "gouache"? Let me add, another good thing to learn with is
"India Ink". It's very thin, easy to work with and doesn't clog the
tip. Just don't get it on your clothes!
