In this article, we will show you how to use Caterpillar FPC software to analyze your fleet performance and costs. You will need to download and install the software from the Caterpillar website[^1^]. You will also need to input some data about your project, equipment, haul road profile and material properties.

Step 1: Create a New Project
After launching the software, click on File and select New to create a new project. You will see a Project screen where you can enter some basic information about your project, such as:

Project title and description
Prepared for, by and date
Units of measurement
Cost of diesel fuel
Machine availability and utilization
Time period and scheduled hours
Operator efficiency and bunching factor

You can also click on Help and select Help Topics to access the user manual for more details on each parameter.

Step 2: Input Your Equipment Data
Next, click on Equipment and select Add/Edit Equipment to input your equipment data. You will see an Equipment screen where you can enter some information about your trucks and loaders, such as:

Equipment type, model and name
Purchase price and salvage value
Operating weight and payload
Fuel consumption and tank capacity
Tire size and life
Maintenance costs and intervals
Rimpull and retarder curves

You can also use the built-in database of Caterpillar equipment or import data from other sources. You can also edit or delete existing equipment data.

Step 3: Input Your Haul Road Profile Data
Next, click on Haul Road Profile and select Add/Edit Haul Road Profile to input your haul road profile data. You will see a Haul Road Profile screen where you can enter some information about your haul road segments, such as:

Segment name and length
Average grade and rolling resistance
Average speed limit and curve radius
Loading and dumping locations
Turnaround time and traffic delay

You can also use the built-in tools to draw or import your haul road profile. You can also edit or delete existing haul road profile data.

Step 4: Input Your Material Properties Data
Next, click on Material Properties and select Add/Edit Material Properties to input your material properties data. You will see a Material Properties screen where you can enter some information about your material types, such as:

Material name and density
Bulking factor and swell factor
Abrasion index and impact factor
Loading time factor and bucket fill factor
Dumping time factor and spillage factor

You can also use the built-in database of common material types or import data from other sources. You can also edit or delete existing material properties data.

Step 5: Run the Analysis and View the Results

Finally, click on Analysis and select Run Analysis to run the analysis and view the results. You will see an Analysis screen where you can choose the equipment combination, material type, haul distance, production target and cost parameters for your analysis. You can also save or print your analysis settings.

The software will then calculate the cycle time, fleet size, production rate, fuel consumption, operating cost, owning cost and total cost for your analysis. You can view the results in different formats, such as tables, charts, graphs or reports. You can also compare different scenarios or export the results to other applications.
