Here you go.
Betty
In July of 2004 a child was born at Cox South Hospital in Springfield
Missouri to Chris and Najwa Cryderman.
After Najwa returned home with her new son, the police stormed her house,
kicking in the door, and aided DFS in removing the child and placing him in
foster care.
Approximately four months later the baby boy died in foster care of a lung
infection.
I have been particularly interested in this case, as it is very close to
home for me.
I was in awe of the support that Najwa Cryderman received from the media,
family rights advocates, and area churches and ministers.
It seems that everyone, after the death of baby Cryderman, was up in arms
over the removal of the child.
The official reason for removal of the child?
Najwa Cryderman's ob received a positive drug test while she was pregnant,
and law enforcement claimed to be in the process of carrying out a warrant
for drug trafficking against Najwa.
Though Najwa denied both claims, she was arrested for drug trafficking
shortly after the removal of the baby Cryderman.
Newspaper accounts of the incident paint Najwa and her husband Chris as
loving, devoted parents who had had problems in the past, but were well on
their way to recovery.
Their 'therapist' spoke in their defense saying that they had made great
progress in dealing with their marital issues.
Shortly before this statement was made, Chris Cryderman was arrested in
Greene County Missouri for assaulting Najwa Cryderman with a knife.
I've followed this case, including looking up the court dockets, because I
wondered, after all of the hoopla about a child being removed from his
family 'without just cause', just how much 'cause' there really was.
Here are the facts:
1) According to Greene County Court records, Najwa Cryderman has been
arrested for crimes that include drug trafficking and destruction of
property.
2) Najwa Cryderman has had several restraining orders filed against her.
(does it sound like someone might be afraid of her?)
3) Najwa Cryderman had another child before the birth of Baby Cryderman.
She voluntarily placed this child, a daughter, in the care of the state, and
during her pregnancy with Baby Cryderman, was working on a service plan that
would allow her daughter to come home.
4) Chris Cryderman and Najwa Cryderman, after the 'progress' cited by their
therapist, have filed for divorce.
5) It is unknown how the case with the daughter unfolded after the death of
Baby Cryderman, as DFS and Juvenile records are not available to the public,
however, one can reasonably assume that the daughter continues to be a ward
of the state as court records show that Najwa Cryderman has FLOWN THE COOP.
Najwa has not shown up for court hearings in the case of trafficking drugs,
nor in one other case.
I wonder how many people who supported the claims of a false drug test
during pregnancy, and false charges of drug trafficking are standing around
feeling like they have egg on their faces?
It's a big issue, in this group, (ASCPS) how DFS removes children from their
homes
for 'no reason'. And yet, when you look at a case like this one, don't you
have to wonder just how much 'reason' has to exist for a removal to be
justified?
When the Baby Cryderman was removed from his home the advocates, rights
leaders, ministers, etc went nuts. It was literally a frenzied attack on
DFS, the state, the county, and the local police for their actions and
removal of the child.
But now, I think we can stand back and see the story for what it really was.
Time always tells, they say.
