Policy
The policy is very strict: the charter will be enforced down to the
spelling. The definition we have supplied for ecological direct action and
the categories of subjects that are included in our charter will be
the only
ones allowed. This doesn't mean we disagree with other kinds of
action, such
as letter writing and political lobbying, just that the line has to be drawn
somewhere and this group is for direct action. Similarly, whilst we
may be
involved in various other social and political issues, this group is
strictly for ecological direct action issues only. Everyone, including the
moderators, will have their own personal interests outside the scope
of this
group. If there are too many off-topic posts, the newsgroup will not achieve
its purpose, so it is only fair not to allow any at all. There are 20,000
newsgroups so there shouldn't be a lack of alternatives to fit your message
if it's off-topic with us.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Moderation Criteria
The moderation is for the convenience of persons wanting to discuss
eco-action. If you are one of these persons, you won't even notice it. All
messages send to this group will be checked by the moderators for
compatibility with the purposes of the group.
Posting is concidered to be off-topic if it doesn't fall into one of the
following categories:
1. Requests to hook up with fellow ecological direct activists near
you or
where you are travelling to.
2. Announcements of forthcoming eco- direct action events.
3. Reports from and discussion of these actions.
4. Background information pertaining to these actions.
5. Announcements of new situations arising where direct action is needed.
6. Discussion of tactics.
Other than this, they will reject commercial postings, trolls and messages
containing personal attacks (unless they are funny).
The following will be automatically rejected by a robot:
* bulkmail, mailbombs, etc.
* binaries (images etc)
* cross-posts (all crossposting is rejected!)
* excessive quoting (2/3 of a message is quoted text)
* messages containing HTML tags or other formatting that doesn't belong
to USENET
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tech
The newsgroup will be moderated initially by those setting the group up:
* sav...@easynet.co.uk
* mii...@k2net.co.uk
* sop...@worthing.eco-action.org
See the moderation criteria for details.
The moderation server will receive the messages and then allow people to
check them through an easy to use web interface. Accepted messages are
forwarded to the group. Rejected messages are bounced back to the sender
with an explanation of why it was rejected - a copy will be send to
news.lists.filters (or a similar one to be announced) except if it's a
binary or a mailbomb.
We will try our best to get the turnaround of this group to 6-12 hours
- at
no time will we allow the turnaround to exceed 24hours. Our ultimate
goal is
to get the moderation so highly automated that no human moderators are
needed.
Note that a PGP authentication is available for those wanting to sign their
messages.
