American: 2 engines broke off in Jamaica landing
An American Airlines flight carrying 154 people skidded across a Jamaican
runway in heavy rain, bouncing across the tarmac and injuring more than 40
people before it stopped just short of the Caribbean Sea, officials and
witnesses said.
Panicked passengers screamed and baggage burst from overhead bins as Flight
331 from Miami careened down the runway in the capital, Kingston, on Tuesday
night, one passenger said.
The impact cracked the fuselage, crushed the left landing gear and separated
both engines from the Boeing 737-800, airline spokesman Tim Smith said.
An American Airlines flight from Miami with more than 150 aboard overshot a
runway and skidded to the edge of the Caribbean Sea, injuring more than 40
people, officials said.
Flight 331 lurched down the runway of Norman Manley International Airport in
the Jamaican capital Tuesday night. Crews evacuated the passengers, who had
to walk along a beach in the rain to board buses to reach the terminal.
Some 44 people were taken to nearby hospitals with broken bones and back
pains, Information Minister Daryl Vaz told The Associated Press.
The engines are designed to sheer off on impact.
It looks like a variety of cascading incidents caused the problem.
They were landing in a heavy rain story with variable wind direction
change. I dont think the pilot should have tried to land in Jamica,
but then again, I dont know if anyother airports in the area were
clear or what his fuel siutation was like.
I will go out on a limb and say that the rain was the majory
contributing factor. Well, not the rain itself, but the accumulation
of rain water on the strip, and the resulting
hydroplaning effect.
There was one report that the plane landed not at the far end of the
runway, but in a point around the middle. There was still enough room
for the pilot to stop under normal conditions. And even if he had run
off the runway he would have gone directly into the water. The water
at the of all the runways is not a sheer dropoff. If the plane landed
in the water, recuse workers could probably walk to the crash.
And also, I would say that th ecrew deserves a pat on the shulder for
getting everone evacuated within two to three minutes.

Rain, rain, go away,
Come again another day;
Little Johnny wants to play.
I'm singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
What a glorious feelin'
I'm happy again
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for love
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain
I've a smile on my face
I walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singin',
Singin' in the rain
Hard Rain (1998) Starring Christian Slater and Morgan Freeman with
real life outlaw Randy Quaid:
Set during a massive flood started by a dam accident in a small
town, Christian Slater is an armored truck guard who gets robbed by
Morgan Freeman.
God observes that the earth is corrupted with violence and decides
to destroy all life. But Noah "was a righteous man, blameless in
his generation, [and] Noah walked with God," and God gives him
instructions for the construction of an ark, into which he is told
to bring "two of every sort [of animal]...male and female," and
their food.[6]
God instructs Noah to board the Ark with his family, seven pairs of
the birds and the clean animals, and two pairs of the unclean
animals. "On the same day all the fountains of the great deep were
broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened, and the rain was
upon the earth," and God closes up the door of the Ark. The flood
begins, and the waters prevail until all the high mountains are
covered fifteen cubits deep, and all the people and animals and
creeping things and birds of the heavens are blotted out from the
earth, and only Noah and those with him in the Ark remain.[7]
Then "God remembered Noah," and causes his wind to blow, and the
fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens are closed,
and the rain is restrained, and the waters abate. In the seventh
month the Ark rests on the mountains of Ararat, and in the tenth
month the tops of the mountains are seen. Noah sends out a raven
and a dove to see if the waters have subsided; the raven flies "to
and fro" and the dove returns with a fresh olive leaf in her beak.
Noah waits seven days more and sends out the dove again, and this
time it does not return.[8]
"In the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first
day of the month, the waters were dried from off the earth, and
Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and behold, the
face of the ground was dry." God tells Noah to leave the ark, Noah
offers a sacrifice to God, and God resolves never again to destroy
the earth, "for the intention of mans heart is evil from his
youth."[8] God grants to Noah and his sons the right to kill
animals and eat their meat, but forbids meat which has not been
drained of its blood. Blood is proclaimed sacred: "For your
lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will
require it and from man...Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man
shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image." Then
God establish his covenant with Noah and his sons and with all
living things, and places the rainbow in the clouds, "the sign of
the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that
is on the earth."[9]

This time it wasn't French engineering. Did you know that French
trains don't work right if it snows? They should be rooting for
global warming to be real.

the plane also broke into several parts. Boeing
marks a point.
