Today, the new head of the Texas Death Panel has announced that he will
implement more secrecy in the future, to prevent such reports from being
released to taxpayers.
Although the law does not allow for such secrecy, he will petition Gov.
Perry's Attorney General to ignore the law, and allow him to keep his
findings secret from taxpayers.
The changes, he says, will take several months and will delay the Panel's
investigation into the execution of this innocent man.
In defense of his decision to kill the innocent man, Gov. Perry pointed out
that he had at some point in his life asked a girlfriend to get an abortion.
"He's a bad, bad man", Gov. Perry said.

That hardly qualifies as "being fired".

“all that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men (and women)

In fact, it did not prove any such thing. It did open doubts about the
forensic
evidence that was presented at the trial.
But, if that original evidence had been refuted and more significant
evidence had
emerged, I dont know why one of the authoritative bodies, up to the US
Supreme
Court, did not issue a restraining order or stay of execution.
Dont get me wrong.. I am no fan of Rick Perry, and like his Republican

I hope that this guy was not innocent, in that he has already been executed.
We
know that some innocent people may be, or may have been, punished unjustly.
There is room for a lot of improvement in the whole judicial process.
Sorry to say it, Larry, but the evidence is overwhelming that Willingham
was innocent. There have been multiple investigations into the fire
since his execution and they have all pointed to flawed evidence being
presented at the trial.
From the Chicago Tribune:
"Over the past five years, the Willingham case has been reviewed by nine
of the nation's top fire scientists - first for the Tribune, then for
the Innocence Project, and now for the commission. All concluded that
the original investigators relied on outdated theories and folklore to
justify the determination of arson. The only other evidence of
significance against Willingham was twice recanted testimony by another
inmate who testified that Willingham had confessed to him. Jailhouse
snitches are viewed with skepticism in the justice system, so much so
that some jurisdictions have restrictions against their use."

That's very right-wing of you!
In the first paragraph, you demand that I explain the issue to you.
But then in the last paragraph, you insist that I don't know about the
issue.
Do you really think it's wise to ask people you don't trust to tell you
about things you don't understand?

That is not true.
That's just what the Governor told the press.
In TRUTH, their terms would have expired soon and they were already slotted
to be reappointed.
That plan was reversed when it became clear that the panel would find
against Perry.
Even the Texas Republicans are pissed off at the governor for doing this.
Like you, they defended him at first - saying that maybe this innocent thing
happened, or maybe that innocent thing happened.
But not anymore.

That's what the anti-science evangelicals say - but that's just because your
faith won't allow you to accept the science.
In fact - the report went well beyond proving that the fire was not set by
this man.
Indeed - it went so far as to show that NO forensic expert could have
REASONABLY concluded that he had set the fire.

Perhaps it was. I will have to focus on it before having a firm opinion,
but the
evidence leads to proof only if the court rules that it is proof, or has
created

Although it is too late to help the accused, I think this whole scenario
should
be investigated seriously.

As for me being a "bit player at best" in Patrick's firing is Patrick not
wanting to admit I got him fired! Rice University's own security department
under Rice President (at the time) Malcolm Gillis contacted me and asked for
headers showing the dates and times of Patrick's stalkings. They
investigated
and not too much later Patrick was fired! Patrick violated his employee's
policy
regarding Rice University's computer facilities as shown here:

(New link active February 3, 2004. Archived locally as RICEedu832-99)
Rice University General Policy No. 832-99
Appropriate Use of Computer Resources
Introduction
The University's computer and information network is a continually growing
and changing resource that supports thousands of users and systems. These
resources are vital for the fulfillment of the academic, research and
business needs of the University community. Their use is provided as a
privilege. In order to ensure a reasonable and dependable level of
service, it is essential that each individual faculty member, staff
member, and student must exercise responsible, ethical behavior when using
these resources. Misuse by even a few individuals has the potential to
disrupt University business, and, even worse, the legitimate academic and
research work of faculty and students...
The unauthorized use of resources is prohibited and, in many cases, may be
violations of the law. We are guided by the law in noting that
unauthorized use includes, but is not limited to the following types of
activities.
Harassment or threats to specific individuals, or a class of individuals:
* Using e-mail or newsgroups to threaten or stalk someone...
Questions Relating to This Policy
The examples of unauthorized use set forth above are not meant to be
exhaustive. Answers to commonly asked questions about the appropriate use
of University computer and information network resources and examples of
actions that would violate this policy are discussed on the Information
Technology web page. Additional questions about this policy or of the
applicability of this policy to a particular situation should be referred
to: violat...@rice.edu. The Vice President for Information Technology is
the final authority on questions of appropriate use of University
resources. Whenever you are in doubt regarding an issue of questionable
use, it is in your best interest to resolve the issue before pursuing any
questionable use of University resources.

Mr. Bradbury, I would appreciate it if you would forward to me the
messages that you referred to below. Unfortunately the person who will be
investigating this matter caught the flu last week, but I expect her back
soon. When she returns I will give her any messages you have forwarded to
me. Thank you. Carlos Garcia

For the record Mr. Garcia has been provided with the examples of Patrick
saying his superiors are laughing me, throwing my complaints in the
wastebasket etc. We will see if Rice is honorable and will take care of
their misbehaving and gold bricking staff member.
Merry Christmas Patrick-- I tried to warn you BUT you would not shut up
and you did imply your superiors approve of your harassment and stalking.
