Each Labor Day 200 PEOPLE (?) pay $75 to shoot at pigeons in Hegins Park
Pennsylvania. Anyone over age l2 can shoot, and no prior experience is
necessary. There is a charge to watch pigeons being shot. Alcohol is sold.
Bleachers are set up. They cheer when the birds are killed or wounded.
6,000 pigeons are kept in a cage until it is their turn to be shot. The birds
are placed in small cages 60 ft from the shooter. The birds are then released,
one by one, with fencing around, and a shooter receives points for shooting or
wounding a bird. Five hundred die immediately from the gunshot. Others suffer
a slow and painful death and eventually die from their wounds or starvation or
infection. 2,000 birds fall within the fenced area - they are not given any
sustenance, drink, or vet care. When the shooter completes a full round,
trapper boys pick up the birds and kill them by a variety of methods. They may
tear the birds heads from their bodies, they may throw them or smash them
against objects on the ground, they may crush the birds by falling on them, or
suffocate the birds by tossing them into a barrel filled with other dead and
dying pigeons.
some wounded pigeons fly into the crowd, who further injure and kill the
pigeons. Spectators seem to enjoy this chance to participate in the slaughter.

Nice people, huh? Nice way to spend your time!. Will you help to stop this
insane practice?

Must be like the old public hanging. What's the big deal it's just a
bird. People hunt everyday do you object just to the way it's done or
that it's done at all?

You don't like it don't go It's a free country or at least it use to be.
