In the community/university theatr setting, I recently had to perform
two monologues, but when I got to my audition, they asked for the
"title" of each. I didn't realize I was supposed to have a "title", as
these had been taken from plays. I simply gave them the play each was
from, but now I wonder if I should have come up with a snappy title
for each, like "Watching my mother die" or something?
What is a typical "title" in this case?
Thanks
You did what they wanted.... providing them the name of the play. The
typical intro for two contrasting monologues will go something like
this:
Hi, I'm John Doe.... (Do this unless you've been introduced to the
auditor.... this is helpful in cattle calls)
.... and I'm doing Polonius from "Hamlet" and Felix from Simon's "The
Odd Couple."
Yes, make sure that you know the playwright's name, and please, never do
a monologue from a play which you've not read. It can be very
embarrassing when the auditor asks you to explain your choices,
relationship and given circumstances.
Break a leg,
Bill
