I remember one year we had snow like that. Not what year it was, but
that it was a year.

Incidentally when I moved (using rental vans) it was February and snowy
like that - except there were quite strong winds across the fields so
snow wasn't on trees but in dunes on the road. Fun for all...

> And the power went off for 30 minutes.

From the wires getting wet?

Yuck. Maybe you should move to Mexico or something...

I don't think it works like that. And if it does; salt water conducts
electricity better than fresh water.

We've had mostly +/-1C at night here. And the heat pump is still not
operational...

I believe they also have cocoa - for chocolate drinks. And possibly tacos.

But I though tacos was only for tuesdays. Also you don't have to drink
chocolate every day - there is also coffee.

Good for you. I have a heat-pump connecting guy who isn't going to show
up until after new-years.

I still have some stuff to burn, but it's mostly branches from various
trees and rather messy.

They most likely have other types of foodstuff in Mexico: burritos and
chilli con carne and such... Or maybe a nice mixed salad once in a while
(with or without feta cheese).

Now you are jut making up excuses. But don't move to Mexico then, and
live with the wind and the cold and the snow on the wires. It was just a
suggestion. Or you could move to some other place that don't have those
types of weather.

Yes. But I don't have any... And I'm supposed to have the heat pump
working any day now, and if not I shall be properly miffed - I might
even make a sarcastic comment about it when he shows up.

Possibly, I'm not mexican. They were all the foodstuffs I assume they
have in Mexico. They may well have other stuff not containing the same
ingredients.

I might wait until the installation in complete (and tested) to deliver

Not James Bond. He would just shoot it with some ridiculously outsized

Exactly. I already have taken delivery of all the hardware, and he still
isn't getting paid until it's operational...

I don't think Ian Fleming (or directors of JB movies) ever watched
Dillermand. And anyway he (Dillermand) uses his penis to help his fellow
human - not to reduce reasonably competent actresses to sex objects...

Was that why I ended up paying for 2½ hours to have a stopcock and a
dish-washer installed... And also had to complain about the components
that were billed but never used?

On the other hand I still haven't received the bill for putting op the
water heater (different plumber and pre-agreed price).

They probably do it the anyone who seems to not know how to do things
themselves. Like people who hire someone to install a dish-washer.

I have no doubt, but it bothers me to have an outstanding bill like that
for months and I have to set money aside for when it turns up.

Really, now! It's a perfectly ordinary british word. Just like the
stopper for the hole in a (wood) barrel is a 'bung' that is inserted
into the barrel's 'bung hole'.

Yes, all of that. But then you would have some lovely warm socks in the
end. And then would you mind making a pair for me as well.

Then my all means make the socks the same way your Gran did. Unless she
used sock glue - then you'll have a problem.

I always wear socks with shorts, at least for showing myself in public.
Not extra thick woollen socks, that's hardly necessary if it's shorts
weather.

like it. Also people could see my feet.

Today I received my new socks; norvegian wool socks, suitable for use in
polar regions (and also inside for people with cold feet). They are
really, really good. I even went for a walk wearing a pair of my new
socks and my feet were nice and toasty all the way.

I love my new socks.

OR.. and I mention this only as a possible option, you could have called
in sick and stayed home. Then you would both have avoided all the
comments and foot-staring, and minimised the strain on the stitches.

There's almost always enough wind here to ensure the clothes will be dry
eventually. And it gets some fresh air as well.

want to just get rid of them now? It's the only $2.05 I have...

There is always a before price. At least here. It is 'unethical
marketing' to have goods "on sale" if it doesn't concern normal stock at
reduced prices. The retailer will get a strongly worded letter from the
relevant authorities. Maybe even a fine.

A bit shady, but definitely not the only example of shops trying to
profit from customers lack of leading comprehension.
The 'trick' I dislike most is when prices are 'From' some amount. Like
the one I saw once where cheese was an optional extra in a cheeseburger.

That's a deli counter, not a restaurant. Restaurants have chefs who
design meals which are printed on the menu to offer a well-rounded
eating experience. [Grump-grump]

Nope. I'm not concerned with other people's stuff being everywhere. Or
my stuff being everywhere for that matter. Not that my stuff is
everywhere - it's usually nowhere to be found, which is somewhat annoying.

Yebut that doesn't contradict my definition of a chef above at all. Also
'cook' in DK is a learned profession with a formal education either as
an apprenticeship or a trade school education (or a mix of both).

A chef is a cook (self-)appointed to that position.

It's a wonder you can get through the door without breaking an ankle.
You should get a shoe-rack - or have less shoes.

Certainly suspicious. It could be that she was merely the unwitting
catalyst for all the murders. A related question is how she had time for
all those activities... or maybe she changed her interests every week.

Didn't they change the actor playing the main character at some point -
for his brother even?

those.

There are only so many actors in Britain... I think a couple of the Dr.
Who's had bit-parts in the show before becoming the Doctor.

It's even more pronounced here - nearly everyone acting in a tv-series
have been in another series earlier - possibly a character married to or
involved with someone played by their enemy in the other series. It's
all very confusing...

Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal Lecter on TV) ?
Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) ?
Sidse Babett Knudsen (PM Birgitte Nyborg in Borgen) ?
Sofie Gråbøl (Sarah Lund in The Killing) ?
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) ?
Alex Høgh Andersen (Ivar the Boneless in Vikings) ?
Katja K [aka Katja Kean aka Sussi la Cour Dollenz] (Naked female in a
number of adult films) ?

Anyone...?

I would ask where one gets a free VPN, but since it doesn't include

I don't know. Sadly I lost the IP address in the latest computer
meltdown, so I haven't been able to use it for years.
However the chinese were surprisingly accommodating when I asked them
for an alternative solution - politely of course.

But of course they do. Nobody wants to be without their spy-brick for
any amount of time...

What I'm saying is that if the heat-retaining property of pants is in
part the layer of air trapped inside being heated by the body - those
type pants isn't retaining much...

It was a hypothetical questioner. And not random - it would have made no

Exactly. Not from Denmark, so such question would not give you an

Sure, but some people has music everywhere and for everything - a
constant wall of sound no matter what they do. I don't get how they can
A) concentrate on what they are doing, and B) get enjoyment from the
music when their attentions is elsewhere...

> Not when I'm walking in traffic.

You probably shouldn't walk in traffic in any case - use the sidewalk;
that's what it is for.

Back in the day:
When I was a little person there used to regularly be a police officer
on children's TV talking about traffic safety, and they they would all
sing a little ditty:
Folk som går på gaden mellem bilerne og sover
skynder sig - men ved det ikke - med at bli' kørt over.

And then we went outside to play "who can wait the longest to jump out
from among the parked cars and cross the street when a car is about to
pass by'. I understand that game was not well liked by the motoring
population.

Reasonable, considering the amount of (UK) series like that, to name it
for the main character. Also Midsummer is a heathen thing...

It's bound to at some point. If not try shouting 'Viggo' in a crowded room.

Sunrise is a theoretical concept. I do have a picture of a canal on my
phone. And a giant snail eating my lettuce as a lock-screen background.
Also some wide open spaces covered in ~1m of fog to make it look spooky...

And some UK shows, for instance Taggart, which is named after the

the actor stopped they kept the name and remaining cast... for years.

Oh. Ice hockey... *shrug*

Fairly well in the moment - we all bonded over not being in hospital.
Not being allowed outside for a while kinda stunted the developing
camaraderie though.

There shouldn't be - they generally add nothing to the story, mostly

systemic. Also they waste my precious news consummation time.

Why is it flying at all - is it like a snitch? Also isn't it supposed to
stay on the ice so the players can whack it into the goal with their
whacking sticks?

Quite possible - especially if the player uses an iron instead of a
driver for the whacking. Putting the puck high enough into the air to
hit a grown person in the face, is counterproductive if the aim is to
get it into the silly little goals they use.

It's true is why.

Although going off alone on a tricycle to see the ducks at the nearest
pond as a preschooler seemed to be an unpopular opinion - maybe it would
have been more acceptable if I had told anyone in advance.

Quite possibly. I don't think I gave it much thought one way or the
other. The road (or sidewalk rather) was there, the trike was there and
I was there; simple as.

I doubt that. There are new persons being created all the time. But I
will definitely be one of those that don't die from eating poisonous
vegetables... probably.

I think everybody who does the proper research already know about the
true purpose of the apollo mission. Anyway the sovjets don't exist any

Upon closer examination it appears that I, as well as the picture, was
wrong. They never landed on the moon, they were deflected by a meteor on
the way. I don't know why anyone would fake that for a photo-op...

egg that has not been boiled exactly the required time. And then he goes
to his club.
> Those medals for stuff like turn a corner. Very prestigious.

Quite. And also quite cumbersome and heavy, one would imagine, when the
whole front of the jacket is filled with them.

Yes. And hired him on the spot, with no references and no interview or
test-boiling of eggs. Because he had to catch a train.

Maybe. I don't know, nobody has ever given me a medal.
In the olden days they made them of proper silver and gold. The
participation medals for WWI and WWII was made in bronze, I'm pretty sure.

He was on a tight schedule at the tine.

I didn't expect you to. After all you weren't there for either of
them... as for the next instalment, that's still to be determined.

To be fair he had a lot of money on the line... I can see where that
will make someone skip some of the details.

It's all about balancing the artistic whole... Also they might put a
piece in the local paper about it if you do.

You say that now, but imagine what all his gentlemanly acquaintances
would think if they knew...

[Various ruminations vacuously removed.]

Something in an earth tone, I would say...

I'm pretty sure that is illegal for award shows. Especially the
prominent and televised ones like this one.

Could be, but as a man-servant he would be in direct contact with his
master a lot.

Sure if you want to be like one of those 'ordinary citizens' being
interviewed for the news.
