All I can say is that it's confusing and overly complicated and no way
to build a space rocket. Also driving for 5 hours is madness - you
should definitely move your cities closer together.
I don't think I've heard anyone using anything but SI-units [1] here
since I was a little lad (so latter half of 1960s) when my mum sometimes
bought a pound of coffee or a half pound of butter - and even then a
danish "pound" was exactly 500g.

That's what they want you to think...
[1] There was a change from using calories to joule as base unit for
energy but that was a change between values derived (calculated) from
SI-units.
