Incest appears to have a biological "yuck" factor built into

I think the only thing that would happen is that those
who practise incest now could come out of the closet.
Plus, when one considers gene therapy, any products
of incest could be fixed should something end up
wrong.
Btw, consentual sex is allowed at age 16 in
Canada. If an 18-year old brother had a hankering
for his 16-year old sister, I'd have a serious problem
with that. Also, a brother may not rape his
sister.
If incest is to be allowed, then I'd support it only
if the age of consent were raised to 21. Rape laws
would also have to be amended to accommodate
incestual rape cases.
As it is, the Church already supports *spiritual* incest.
For me, that is part of the "yuck" factor. Whatever is
in spirit could very well manifest in real action.
Followers of Church doctrine are quite often
refering to each other as brothers and sisters
in Christ. That means a married couple in Christ
as brother and sister are practising *spiritual* incest.
That, too, gives me the creeps just thinking about it!

owing to artificial insemination. But there certainly is not likely to be
any increase in incest between persons who know they are related.
In most cases, laws do not actually prohibit incestuous sexual relationships
between adults, but only prohibit marriage. In Western law, this traces
back to a time when a few Italian families were concentrating wealth and
church power through incestuous marriages. It was to prevent this that laws
against incestuous marriages were passed and the church was brought in the
process of certifying marriage, which previously had been a matter of civil
law with no religious significance.

I do think that the age of consent should be lowered to 14. When
my girlfriend and I were dating in our mid-teens, she was VERY

Seems to me incest is a highly over rated topic: if all men were

All of our major religions and ideologies make claims of the universal
fraternity and brotherhood of men: if we are all sons of the same G*d,
then they're all our sisters.
So philosophically speaking the question of incest is moot.
On a practical plane, familiarity really _does_ breed contempt, and
for good reason. The lot of us humans are _far_ too genetically
homogeneous and suffer for it. Human populations that encourage
inbreeding all have "Mount Olympus" or "Crocodile God" traditions
that deal with the disposal of unpleasantly high percentages
of nonviable babies.
