Abortion is Not Health Care
November 6th, 2009 by Joseph Meaney
Bumper stickers with the message "Abortion is Not Health Care" have
started appearing around the country. They could also say infanticide
and euthanasia are not health care.
Our first child, Therese Marie, was born on September 29th the Feast
of the Archangels. While in the hospital I met the mother of a child
born prematurely and who had to be treated in the neo-natal intensive
care unit. That baby was fortunate to arrive in the USA and not Great
Britain.
Sarah Capewell’s boy Jayden came prematurely at 21 weeks and 5 days of
pregnancy in an English hospital. Had Jayden been born 48 hours later
he would have been eligible for intensive care treatment. Instead,
following their medical guidelines, the British National Health
Service staff allowed him to gasp for breath for two hours before
dying in his mother’s arms.
Welcome to socialized medicine.
My wife and I saw some of the problems with the US health care system
firsthand through the delivery and neo-natal care of our daughter. The
fear of lawsuits leads directly to costly defensive medicine,
including the ordering of unnecessary medical tests. At times it seems
like the whole health care system is oriented towards the convenience
of medical staff rather than the best interests of the patients. Costs
are indeed very high.
On the other hand, we had no fear that the very best trained personnel
and technology were ready and willing to care for the patients. For
example, the USA has 27 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines,
very effective tools for accurate diagnosis, per million Americans.
The figure for both Canada and Great Britain is 6 per million
inhabitants. One could go on about the things that America’s flawed
system provides that are simply not available under socialized medical
regimes, but the end results of both systems when compared are clear
for all to see. Overall cancer survival rates after 5 years for
American men are 66% and 63% for women. In Europe they are 47% for men
and 56% for women.
"Health Care Reform should be about saving lives NOT destroying them"
is the slogan of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops ‘
campaign to oppose vigorously the current health care legislation
before the US Congress. Abortion providers stand to receive millions
of our taxpayer dollars for their deadly work if the bills are not
properly amended. The right of medical practitioners to decline to
perform immoral procedures because of conscientious objection is not
protected in the current drafts. Bureaucrats will be giving the
gravely ill and elderly voluntary "end of life counseling" and others
will decide who gets life-saving treatments and who won’t, as we see
already in Britain.
The legislation as it currently stands in the almost 2,000-page House
bill is totally unacceptable from a pro-life perspective. Please join
us in taking action to inform our political representatives of how you
feel about the health care bills that will be voted on in the next few
days (click here ). We must act and pray, asking for Divine
deliverance from this impending disaster.

Abortion is safer than childbirth. Therefore for many
women it IS health care. Life-saving, actually.
More U.S. women dying in childbirth
ATLANTA - U.S. women are dying from childbirth at the
highest rate in decades, new government figures show.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20427256/
For example, a woman was once at risk for late-term complications, and
needed to stay in the hospital continuously for fetal monitoring. Her
HMO sent her home and gave her a nurse 16 hours a day.
The baby died when the nurse wasn't there.
Oh, and the woman could not sue the HMO for malpractice, because
lobbyists have bought legislation that blocks all such lawsuits.
Now, what were you saying about the rights of the unborn..?
Never been pregnant, I take it?
As the saying goes, "if men could get pregnant, abortion would be a
sacrament".

However, that misandrous saying is a major lie.
Women, as it stands now, not only have abortion, which IS a medical
procedure, by which to void any parental situations and obligations
arising from those situations, but women, and women, ALONE, have
several
other NON medical and NON biological means with which to permanently
void any and all of their parental obligations: Legal abandon laws,
legal
adopting out, and so on.
Were the women's movement interested in ACTUAL equality under the law,
it would support MEN having such EQUAL legal rights to Make A Choice
to use NON medical and NON biological LEGAL means to void their
parental obligations, as women CAN.
So, the reality is, if men could get pregnant, abortion would be
illegal.
Because, for all other areas of the law in this issue, men's Choices
ARE already illegal.
We'll also skip past the fact that when a woman is a non custodial
parent, she is almost twice as likely to default on paying child
support
payments, and she is about one fourth as likely to be assed to make
any child support payments, in the first place.

God created women as a life support system for the preborn. And women love it.
A dead fetus is already dead. Abortion is murder.
And if we had mandatory, subsidized prenatal health care, then fewer women would
have complications.
And fewer women would have to make the agonizing choice between poverty and a
quick abortion.
However, we certainly can't have mandatory, subsidize prenatal health care,
because that would be MARXIST COMMUNIST SOCIALIST FASCIST and MUSLIM!
And if we had mandatory, subsidized prenatal health care, then fewer women would
Both of which latter involve carrying to term. This exacts a toll upon
the woman's health and earning capacity but not the man's.

Would you include in this legislation the male's paying a salary to
the pregnant woman for 9 months of carrying the fetus as well as
assuming liability for any long-term medical problems she may incur
during gestation?

You prate of reality by citing an unreal condition? Since men cannot
get pregnant, your proposed outcome is moot at best.

Given a long-standing tradition of the abandonment of pregnant women
by the men who got them that way, I am not entirely surprised at this.
Are you? Seems to me, abortion is the best solution for both when
they are faced faced with an unwanted child. It also seems to me that
the most rabid opponents of abortion are overwhelmingly male, which
suggests more about their sexual dominance issues than their morality.

Considering that U.S. women typically earn <60% of what men earn in
equivalent jobs, do you find this surprising? Or have Canadian women
greater equality in salaries? May Canadian women receive abortions
under public health?

Uh, improving women's lib, including making desertion more illegal, would seem
to be a close second there.
But, hey, all the pro-lifers are generally all about that women's lib, too...

many Catholic owned hospitals will not allow a dead fetus to be
aborted. How about the question of no skull?
So then is radiation therapy.
Let's be honest about the fact that contraception saves health care
dollars and banning abortion and contraception will "bust the bank" of
our health care system. We should mandate vasectomies, which is the
most cost effective as well as most failure proof form of
contraception, and charge those who don't breed and are sterile less
money. Paying for pregnancy and childbirth, and forcing the birth of
children with social and or physical impairment costs us more money
than we have! Sheesh!
Ronald Reagan signed the 1967 California Abortion Act into law, with
funding so poor women could get free abortions, because it's cheaper
than welfare.
Let's not forget that one of the leading causes of death to pregnant
women in the usa is HOMICIDE, generally at the hands of the
babydaddy.

The same losers who decry gov't intrusion into men's lives demand gov't
intrusion into women's lives...
Such a sob story. Sounds like something from the pro-lie playbook.
How about some cites, please. Show us that this really happened.
Then you can tell us how being in the hospital undergoing fetal
monitoring would have saved a fetus that died in the womb. Or are you
saying that she gave birth at home and didn't have the sense to call
for an ambulance when she started into labor??

Al Bundy watching TV: "Next on Oprah - Men. Line them up and shoot
them all."
I'm pretty sure he was referring to duke the pedophile lover.
While I certainly agree with you, do keep in mind that much the same
argument could be raised in favor of infanticide. I.e., the kid isn't
cuddly anymore, it is an inconvenience, get rid of it. But we, as a
society, don't allow that. The point is, you have to draw a line
somewhere - and centuries of experience have taught us that the right
place to draw the line is at birth. We vigorously protect the life of a
human being, once we determine it to be a human being. And this is, of
course, as it should be.
As another poster mentioned, if they ever do take this "human life
begins at conception" stuff seriously (which will, of course, never
happen, for myriads of reasons), the lawyers (tax, inheritance, car pool
lanes, etc, etc) will have a field day.
Are you really this stupid?
> While I certainly agree with you, do keep in mind that much the same

Nope. Irrelevant. Pregnancy and childbirth are very harmful, and
abortion relieves that, and after birth, a child can be given to
someone else to raise. What a pity you antiabortniks don't do
anything about the millions of actual children who need help right
now . ..
No. Someone else wrote that.
But it sounds like we pretty much agree with it - that she can have kids
later, and that it isn't the Pope's call. Don't we agree about that?

I think you have me confused with someone else.
Hint: the quote above was a rhetorical device.

True, I was thinking more about the American Catholics, many of which
have broken with the Vatican on a number of issues and decided not to
continue living in the 12th century.
No surprises there, as the Catholics I know would wonder what his collection

** As I see it the already perverted ones were attracted to the RC
priesthood by the RC vow of chastity (1079).
In 1079 CE, that "vow" only meant priests could not get married. Their children
could not use legitimacy to compete with the church over inheritances. Further
distortions happened since then.
(I'm aware your 1097 might mean something else...;)

It's not an abortion if the fetus is dead.

then why won't some Catholic owned hospitals allow a dead fetus to be
aborted?
You'll not contribute to any pregnancy, if you ever did.
Keep on convincing readers that you're an asshole godbot.
Antibiotic use is murder of helpless bacteria for your comfort and
convenience, not health care.
You probably think women love your fusty old cock, too.
>Or have Canadian women greater equality in salaries? May Canadian women receive abortions
> under public health?
The answer is yes, one can get an abortion on public health care.
Don't expect a rational response from the well-known kook Lieven. He's
a jobless Star Trek convention geek who lives in his mother's basement
and rants about the oppression of men. Even among other mascunazis,
who are all nutty to some degree, he stands out as particularly
deranged.
~More~ illegal? Is that like being a bit pregnant? Either it is
illegal or it isn't. Last I heard, it was.
You think ~all~ men deserve that? Was your dad an abusive asshole or
something?
Why at birth? There is evidence of fetal sentience in the last
trimester. Doesn't sentience define personhood?
That's pretty much my point of view as well. Given the fact that the
church has a very long history of enabling and protecting pedophiles,
even going so far as providing them with fresh victims to choose from,
what better place for a pedophile to "ply his trade" as it were. The
perfect cover for a pervert who has no interest in pursuing adult
sexual relationships to operate in. The church didn't create the
pervert, just provided the perfect operating environment for them,
then failed to correct this problem for decades, and most likely
centuries after it was well aware of the issue. This is why the
church is complicit in these crimes.

** My guess is that the root cause was hubris.
True, I'm sure there was no shortage of that. Indeed, the church
must have been rampant with hubris.
No, just men who think it's OK to rape and force gestation.
Thank )O(goddess)O( not all men are like that.
No, but LA traffic is.

Indeed.
In that case, I agree. Those men deserve all the pain of forced
pregnancy, birth and more.
You don't abort something that's dead. You remove it.
